Scope

Perform general mechanical maintenance activities in the South Charleston WV plant. This position supports plant’s production equipment, maintains facility maintenance, as well as general maintenance throughout the plant.  The General Mechanic (GM) role is expected to use sound judgment to make decisions that will contribute to the overall plant efficiency, objectives and policies.  Safety and all environmental issues are foremost in the overall consideration in forming these judgments.  Position requires working shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities include the following but are not intended to represent all job responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Perform work in compliance with plant and specific area safety regulations.
  • Install, troubleshoot and repair various types of mechanical equipment including, but not limited to pumps, valves, compressors, conveyors, blowers, heat exchangers, centrifuges, misc. rotating equipment, etc.
  • Perform routine Preventive Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance.
  • Perform welding, burning, rigging and pipefitting.
  • Fabricate, replace, and install piping systems.
  • Fabricate, burn, weld, replace and install peripheral structural steel.
  • Support plant programs, industry standards and government regulations such as: Solenis QIT, CRC, MOC and critical safety programs such as PSM, NEC, OSHA, NFPA, etc.
  • Be knowledgeable, trained and adhere to all federal regulations and company policies pertaining to pollution and hazardous materials.  Report all irregularities to supervision of the environmental department.
  • Perform work with minimum supervision from written or verbal work orders.
  • Perform housekeeping to maintain clean, neat and safe standards.  
  • Adhere to all established work rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Safe and proper handling of shop power equipment, ordinary hand tools, and power tools.
  • Safe operation of overhead cranes, mobile crane, fork trucks, scissors lift, snorkel lift, etc.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in interpreting specifications, drawings, and instructions to assist in the installation, troubleshooting, repair, alignment, etc. of mechanical equipment.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written.

Desired Experience:

  • 5-10 Years of experience in a manufacturing environment as a mechanic or maintenance technician.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to check blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Strong organizational and follow up skills.
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments.

Equipment Knowledge

A working knowledge of the following specific equipment is preferred but not required: Ketema, Tolhurst and Bird centrifuges; Durco and Goulds pumps; AES and Chesterton pump seals; Fitzpatrick rotating equipment; Raymond and Phillips Kiln calciners; various welding disciplines such as stick (SMAW), tig (GTAW), Mig (GMAW), flux cord (FCAW), etc.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The individual frequently is required to stand, walk, or sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The individual must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving, mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment frequently requires hearing protection.  Employees must be able to wear a respirator

The expected compensation range for this position is between $57,000.00 and $95,000.00 plus discretionary bonuses. The exact compensation may vary based on your skills, experience and other factors permitted by law.
