Job Summary: The Maintenance Mechanic position is located within Facilities Management Service at the Eastern Kansas Health Care System. The incumbent is responsible for general maintenance of support work, survey of wards and buildings, review and completion of tasks in the Area Maintenance Log, maintenance and repair service equipment and cross training of employees of similar and lower grades.

Major Duties:

  • The incumbent is a Journeyman level trades person in one or more trades and at a minimum meets the intermediate level of all trade elements. As a Journeyman, incumbent must be qualified and have general knowledge of trades. They must have experience and be qualified in other trade functions. They must have the ability and knowledge to complete a variety of task, understanding and interpreting shop drawings, plans, diagrams and service manuals of a a multi-trade environment. Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Test installs, maintains all electrical equipment, appliances and systems. Locates and diagnoses trouble in electrical systems Lays out, assembles and installs electrical equipment and systems using plans, sketches, wiring diagrams, and specifications. Follows a program of lock and key control, issuance, inventory accountability, and rapid key exchange. Rekey and duplicating keys and the key locking mechanisms. Repairs and reworks locks and locking mechanisms. Installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs new and existing medium and low pressure steam heating systems and equipment. Installs, modifies, repairs and replaces building plumbing systems, eye wash stations, water coolers and any other associated plumbing systems. Performs new construction or maintenance and repair in rough carpentry structural framing and form work. Maintains and services door closing devices and related hardware for buildings, furnishings, and equipment. Sheet rock installation and plastering of walls and ceilings. Rebuilding and maintenance and repair of geri-chairs. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD08445A Physical Requirements: The incumbent is required to climb ladders, reach and lift heavy loads over forty(40) pounds and walk long distances in a regular days' work. A great amount of kneeling, bending, and climbing stairways is required. Incumbent must wear safety and protective clothing or equipment prescribed for the work setting. At times, incumbent is required to work in areas that are poorly lighted. The incumbent is required to work both inside and outside in all types of weather. Required to work in areas that are noisy such as pump rooms and areas that are exposed to gases, dust smoke and fumes. Works in all areas of the Medical Center, including contagious disease and/or contaminates areas. Incumbent must wear safety and protective clothing or equipment prescribed for the work setting.
