Position Overview:
This position provides technical leadership for the operation, reliability, and optimization of Husky PET injection molding systems and associated automation within a high-volume manufacturing environment. Responsible for the strategic coordination of injection maintenance activities, mold changeovers, process startup, and advanced troubleshooting of servo-hydraulic injection systems, hot runner technologies, and mold tooling platforms.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide advanced technical oversight of Husky GLine / HyPET injection molding platforms, including:
Injection unit performance optimization
Clamp system mechanics and tie-bar stretch monitoring
Servo-hydraulic drive systems
Valve-gated hot runner technology
Mold cooling and thermal management systems
Automated part handling robotics and downstream equipment
Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for Husky machine functionality, diagnostics, and system integration.
Lead technical troubleshooting of complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and process-related issues affecting machine performance and product quality.
Specific Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Optimize critical injection parameters to maintain stable production including:
Injection velocity and pressure profile
Screw recovery and plasticizing performance
Hold pressure and pack profiles
Mold temperature and cooling efficiency
Cycle time optimization
Diagnose and correct process-related defects including:
Preform dimensional variation
Gate imbalance
Short shots
Flashing
Crystallinity or cooling defects
Utilize statistical process control systems (RealSPC) and production analytics to ensure consistent process capability.
Advanced Mold Changeovers & System Setup:
Lead and coordinate complex mold changeovers on Husky injection systems, ensuring minimal downtime and rapid production startup.
Key technical responsibilities include:
Mold installation and precision alignment
Hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling system integration
Hot runner electrical interface verification
Valve gate system calibration
Robot EOAT (End-of-Arm Tooling) setup
Mold protection configuration and validation
Ensure all systems are verified prior to production startup through machine diagnostics and process validation checks.
Equipment Reliability & Predictive Maintenance
Develop and implement predictive and preventative maintenance strategies for injection molding equipment and auxiliary systems.
Oversee maintenance programs for:
Injection screws and barrels
Servo-hydraulic pumps and valves
Clamp assemblies and lubrication systems
Hot runner systems and temperature controllers
Cooling manifolds and mold temperature control units
Robotics and automation interfaces
Utilize SAP maintenance systems, FMS monitoring platforms, and machine diagnostics to track equipment performance and maintenance history.
Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
Lead advanced troubleshooting efforts involving:
Hydraulic pressure instability
Servo drive faults
Injection unit wear or degradation
Mold cooling inefficiencies
Valve gate malfunctions
Electrical or PLC communication faults
Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Production Integration & Data Systems
Monitor and analyze production performance through systems such as:
Factory Management Systems (FMS)
RealSPC statistical monitoring
SAP production and maintenance reporting
Evaluate performance metrics including:
Machine uptime
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
Scrap and defect rates
Cycle time efficiency
Provide recommendations for process and equipment improvements based on production data.
Technical Leadership & Workforce Development
Provide mentorship and technical training to:
Maintenance technicians
Setup technicians
Injection operators
Training focus areas include:
Husky system diagnostics
Injection process fundamentals
Mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting
Mold handling and changeover best practices
Education, Skills & Experience:
Education: High School Diploma or GED. Some post-secondary education preferred (i.e., Technical or Vocational education in millwright, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics or industrial maintenance is highly preferred).
Minimum of five years of experience working with high-speed injection molding equipment, preferably Husky PET injection molding systems.
Demonstrated maintenance & technical skills:
Ability to lead by example, and effective communication skills
Analytical problem-solving skills (DMAIC)
Good display of interpersonal skills and ability to interact with others in a professional and tactful manner.
SAP, Basic computer skills (Microsoft office)
Pay Transparency Statement – Compensation
The starting salary for this position is expected to be between $45.00 per hour to $49.00 per hour, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on national averages, and a geographic differential may be applied based on work location. Position may also be eligible for Amcor’s Management Incentive Plan / Sales Incentive Plan, which is an annual bonus program based on business and individual performance, as well as medical coverage and other health and welfare benefits.
