Monitors, restores service, changes, supports, and handles day-to-day activities 7/24/365 required to run the mission critical systems for the company ensuring mainframe performance and capacity meet business service levels requirements and environments are managed. Performs performance and capacity analysis that trends future needs and create strategic plans with input from IT teams.

  • Focus is primarily on systems performance and Capacity management; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Infrastructure Oversight - Manage mainframe capacity plan for the whole mainframe infrastructure (Sysplex, LPAR concepts and resources) and oversee the resource planning for all subsystems
  • Possesses strong technical and/or business functional knowledge of systems, timing and dependencies.
  • Proactively analyses system performance and identifies operational and automation improvements that ensure smooth and consistent customer and business partner delivery.
  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Coordinate with the technical/performance management teams to reach agreement and coordinate performance and capacity improvements and fixes.
  • Drives and/or promotes new processes, systems, technology, and operations and expanded capabilities for performance, with the flexibility to align to the unique requirements of the project teams and deliverables.
  • Create and present performance and capacity strategic plans, provide insights and get agreement from various cross-functional teams on future plans
  • Cost optimization – work with financial team to audit licensing and hardware charges to ensure vendor charges are correct.
  • Monitors and tracks performance, and addresses any issues, provides recommendations
  • Creation of alerts for CICS, MQ
  • Provides initial triage, investigation and ensures fast turnaround times on issue/incident resolution.
  • Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.
  • Supports deployment activities, managing implementation issues to resolution.
  • Collaborates and engages with the appropriate areas across the bank.
  • Develops or helps to develop the knowledge assets required for the operation.
  • Promotes adherence to standards and industry best practices.
  • Develops an understanding of organizational interactions and complexity to engage with the appropriate matrix areas.
  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen the operational capability, such as: sharing expertise to promote technical development, mentoring employees, building communities of practice and networks across technology.
  • Stays abreast of industry technical and business trends through participation in professional associations, practice communities & individual learning.
  • Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Typically, 2-4 years of work experience in IT mainframe or business environment and/or B.S./B.A. in computer science, engineering, information systems, math or business.
  • Key skills: Data analytics mindset, Capacity modelling knowledge, System Performance and tuning techniques, ITSM process, financial knowledge – e.g. contracts, chargebacks, etc
  • Understanding of Information Technology operating processes used for systems to ensure effective delivery including but not limited to IT Operations mandatory operating standards for monitoring, logging, and alerting.
  • Knowledge of support and operations practice, concepts, and technology obtained through formal training and/or work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mainframe performance analysis tools including IntelliMagic, IZPCA and ITBI
  • Working knowledge on the use of various capacity forecasting methodologies
  • Good proficiency using various reporting and analysis tools including PowerBI, Spotfire and ServiceNow
  • Good proficiency in SharePoint website development and update
  • Proficient with Mainframe applications and tools including CICS, DB2, Websphere, MQ, Z/OS, Omegamon, CICS Explorer, Dynatrace, MQ Apps, Apptune, QMF, TDS and MXG
  • Mainframe Technical and/or business functional knowledge of systems, tools, timing, and dependencies.
  • Mainframe Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.

NOTE: This role requires 2/3 days a week in the office.

Salary:

$61,600.00 - $113,900.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
