Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MACHINIST, Position Description Number D1489000 and is part of the PA 171st Air Refueling Wing, National Guard. 1 or more Position(s) may be hired against this Announcement.

Major Duties:

  • As a Machinist, WG-3414-11, you will perform all types of machining operations to manufacture, modify, and repair aircraft parts, support equipment, tools, and assemblies. Lays out work, read and interpret blueprints and technical publications, designs and draws working sketches, makes special tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures, performs production work of aircraft parts, and works to tolerances varying from.0l0 to .0005 inch. Weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys such as cobalt, chrome, nickel, aluminum, magnesium, and titanium. Compare machine parts with drawings, technical orders, or specifications for conformance with established tolerances, fits, and surface finish. Conduct training of drill status guard (DSG) members assigned to the shop. Prepare for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations and inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. May be required to be aircraft welder certified. Perform other duties as assigned.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Bargaining Position AOC 1: NG Employees at the 171st Air Refueling Wing AOC 2: NG employees in the 171st Air Refueling Wing (This includes 258th ATCS, 146 Weather Flight, 146 ARS, and 147 ARS) AOC 3: NG Employees of the Pennsylvania National Guard AOC 4: All service members of the Pennsylvania National Guard (This includes Traditional Airmen, Temporary Technicians and AGR Personnel) AOC 5: Individuals who are currently serving in another branch of service who are willing to become members of the PANG Military Grades: ENLISTED E3-E6 Supervisor for this position is MSgt Przybysz Manpower #0115161334 *NOTE: Accessioning into this position is contingent upon verification of Secret Security Clearance -Individual(s) nominated must successfully complete a baseline initial employment physical examination in accordance with 5 CFR, Part 339 and Technician Personnel Regulation TPR 335. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with a basic knowledge of machining processes. Must have the ability to use drill presses, shapers, planers and other types of associated machine tools. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training performing the full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments. Experience or training in planning and lay out work from blueprints, worksheets and other drawings that may have missing or incorrect information. Skill in applying shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces, locating and marking surfaces and angles to be machined. Skill in programming machining operations, setting up and operating CNC machine tools. Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced shop mathematics such as geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computation for laying out work, machining pieces at unusual or compound angles, determining gear ratios pitch, angles and other similar exact or precision dimension. QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed.
