Job Description

Primary Function:

The Machine Tender/Packer is a general utility person for the manufacturer of blown film plastic including line start-ups, winder operation and adjustment, packaging and palletizing of finished product.

 

Essential Functions

                             

  • Operate extrusion equipment ensuring product meets order and quality specifications
  • Perform quality checks in accordance with order requirements using a micrometer and  tape measure
  • Perform basic adjustments to line speed and winder settings to insure good quality products based on Customer specifications found on Traveler (work order)
  • Weigh and accurately record all product on Travelers report / continuation sheets
  • Package product per routing notes and any other order instructions checking accuracy of labels and adherence to product guidelines
  • Continuous cleaning of work area as needed and removal of any debris or obstructions
  • Check equipment and work area for potential safety hazards and report those to the shift Supervisor
  • Follow all safety and BRC guidelines as instructed and report any non-conformities to the shift supervisor for correction
  • Job duties may change as directed by supervisor

Additional Responsibilities:

 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, order forms, travelers and checklists
  • Ability to speak effectively with Managers, co-workers or before groups of co-workers, Supervisors or others within the company
  • Performs duties in a safe manner and reports all observed safety hazards to the shift supervisor
  • Mandatory participation of safety programs and training
  • Attend meetings as scheduled
  • Wear mandatory assigned Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.)
  • Able to operate a pallet jack
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Able to climb towers to thread up lines
  • Possess good written and verbal communications skills
  • Know and understand the importance of safety, quality, housekeeping and teamwork
  • Dependable and flexible when work is required in other facets of production
  • To ask questions to prevent errors or clarification
  • Can work with minimum supervision in a fast paced environment

 

Essential Physical Requirements: 

 

  • Walking to operate production machines and to package and palletize finished product for as much as 100% of workday
  • Sitting to prepare reports and use computer equipment for approximately 10% of workday
  • Must be able to assist with set-ups and mechanical repairs which can require
  • Standing for as much as 100% of workday
  • Reaching with hands and arms for as much as 75% of workday
  • Climbing or balancing for as much as 25% of workday
  • Kneeling, stooping, crouching or crawling for as much as 10% of workday
  • Bending, twisting, reaching and leaning for as much as 75% of workday
  • Talking to communicate with others for as much as 100% of workday
  • Hearing to communicate with others for as much as 100% of workday
  • Using arms to grasp, handle and type for as much as 75% of workday
  • The employee in this job is required to exert 60 pounds of force occasionally (less than 1/3 of time); and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of time); and/or up to 30 pounds of force regularly (more than 2/3 of the total time)

 

Special Skills:

  • Possess basic math skills
  • Able to read tape measure or ruler to perform quality checks and transfer to documents
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Able to read a weight scale and transfer to documents
  • Must possess good judgment, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Must be able to obtain forklift certification
