What’s the role
Shell Canada is seeking for a Lubricants Technical Advisor - West (also known as Senior Technical Advisor internally).
The Lubricant Technical Advisor – West will serve as a technical resource for Shell Canada’s direct and indirect lubricants accounts, including the industrial, off‑highway, and on‑highway sectors. This role supports Shell sales teams and customers by providing expert guidance on the Shell lubricants portfolio and equipment applications, troubleshooting technical issues, and leveraging product attributes to drive commercial success.
In addition, this role requires the Lubricant Technical Advisor to be based in Western Canada. It is a remote position with frequent business travel (50%–60%), primarily across Western Canada, to engage with customers and perform field‑based technical activities.
You collaborate closely with Shell’s sales teams and customers to:
Deliver tailored technical advice and product recommendations
Troubleshoot complex lubrication challenges in the field
Demonstrate the commercial and operational value of Shell’s lubricant solutions
Support the deployment of new technologies and services that enhance customer performance
Accountabilities:
Establish and maintain technical partnerships with key direct accounts
Deliver front-line technical support, including problem solving, troubleshooting, and application advice for customers and sales staff
Diagnose lubrication-related failures where lubricant quality or practices are questioned
Specify suitable Shell lubricants for various vehicles, machinery, and equipment, ensuring compliance with industry and OEM specifications
Conduct lubrication assessments, surveys, product rationalization, and field trials to support business strategy
Coach, guide, and support Distributor personnel to foster Indirect Channel growth
Drive both top-line and bottom-line business growth in line with the business’ strategies, objectives, rules of winning, and enterprise-first focus through P&L management
Conduct joint and solo customer visits, providing technical proposals and assistance to generate new sales opportunities
Develop and deliver lubricants training for distributors, Shell Sales staff, and tailored packages for Gold/Platinum Customers
Provide customers and front-line sales teams with Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), occupational health, and product disposal advice, ensuring compliance with relevant local legislation
Address technical issues or customer inquiries referred from Customer Operations or the Technical Help Desk, working collaboratively to resolve matters directly with the customer
Partner with the local Marketing Specialist to strengthen Shell’s Technology Intimacy reputation in the marketplace through targeted sales initiatives
Escalate complex technical challenges to the Team Lead, Sector Lubricants Technical Advisor, or the Product Application Specialist network, collaborating to ensure issues are fully resolved and following up locally as required
Utilize Sales First tools including Salesforce, standardized documentation templates, and demonstrated value records in alignment with global standards to deliver demonstrable Technology Leadership or Value-Led outcomes
Consistent act in accordance with Shell’s Global Business Principles, Code of Conduct, and HSE standards and policies
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Must have Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, or Chemical Engineering, or a diploma in Mechanical, Petroleum, or Chemical Engineering Technology or in any other related technical discipline
Professional certifications: Certified Lubrication Specialist (CLS), Machinery Lubrication Technician (MLT), and/or Machine Lubricant Analyst (MLA) are highly valued
At least 5 years of relevant experience in lubricants and their applications in industrial, off-highway, on-highway sectors
Experience in a customer-facing or technical sales support role is preferred
Extensive engineering knowledge, mechanical aptitude and critical thinking skills
Must be willing and able to travel 50–60% (across Western Canada)
Must have a valid driver’s license
Fluency in English

What we offer
The base salary range for this position is $112,500 - $162,500 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
