Job Description

Literacy and Education Specialists partner with communities and organizations to carry out literacy projects such as multilingual education and adult literacy. A specialist supervises program design, orthography development, writer's workshops, teacher training, materials development and distribution, and management training. Literacy and Education Specialists provide leadership and expertise for the planning and implementation of these projects.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Partners with communities and organizations to carry out various literacy and education projects. 

  • Provides leadership and expertise in the planning and implementation of these projects. 

  • Participates in multilingual education programs. 

  • Develops literacy and education materials.

  • Maintains relationships with external partners including government.

  • Facilitates, monitors, and evaluates literacy and education programs.

  • Facilitates and participates in workshops.

Education &  Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree, plus 1-3 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Working knowledge of language and culture acquisition, and literacy education.

Planning projects. 

Previous multicultural experience is helpful. 

Good understanding of:

Language and Culture Acquisition

Sociolinguistics

Orthography

Phonetics

Phonology

Cultural Anthropology. 

Good understanding of the content of the Literacy Megacourse or its equivalent. 

Good understanding of using appropriate advanced software for literacy tasks such as primer construction, shell book construction, and desk-top publishing.
