The Linux Administrator is responsible for the reliability, security, and performance of Linux-based systems supporting on-premises and AWS EC2 environments. The role exists to operate, migrate, optimize and support RHEL workloads as they transition from on-prem infrastructure into AWS, ensuring service continuity, security compliance, and cost-effective cloud operations. Success is measured by system stability, successful migration outcomes, automation maturity, and operational efficiency. 

  •  Administer, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, Amazon Linux, Ubuntu) across on-premises and AWS EC2 environments, ensuring availability, performance, and security. 
  • Support and execute on-premises to AWS EC2 lift-and-shift migration activities, including system assessment, AMI creation, cutover planning, post-migration validation, and issue remediation. 
  • Manage AWS EC2 infrastructure including instance provisioning, right-sizing, AMIs, EBS volumes, security groups, IAM role integration, and lifecycle management. 
  • Implement automation and configuration management using tools such as Ansible, shell scripting, or Terraform to reduce manual effort and configuration drift. 
  • Monitor system health, troubleshoot incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and participate in on-call rotation to meet SLAs during steady-state and migration phases. 
  • Apply OS hardening, patching, vulnerability remediation, and support compliance and security standards across hybrid environments. 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience 

  • 5+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator in enterprise environments 

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience administering AWS EC2 in production 

  • Strong experience administering RHEL in on-prem and/or cloud environments 

  • Experience supporting business-critical systems during infrastructure changes or migrations 

Preferred 

  • Experience with large-scale on-prem to AWS migration initiatives 

  • Experience in hybrid infrastructure environments 

  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator- Associate or higher or equivalent certification (preferred, not required) 

  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)(Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)  

  • Experience with scripting/automation in Bash, Python, or PowerShell 

Technical Skills 

  • Advanced Linux system administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning 

  • AWS EC2, EBS, AMIs, security groups, and IAM role integration 

  • Lift-and-shift migration concepts, system validation, and post-migration support 

  • Automation and scripting (Bash, Ansible, Terraform preferred) 

  • OS hardening, patch management, and vulnerability remediation 

Physical Abilities / Demands 

  • Ability to support after-hours maintenance windows and possible on-call rotations 

  • Ability to work extended periods at a computer and respond to incidents as required
