About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel who is passionate about the future of technology in law — particularly AI. At LexisNexis, we are at the forefront of legal innovation, and this role would suit someone who has curiosity, exposure or strong interest in generative AI/legal tech and wants to be part of shaping how responsible AI is applied in legal products and commercial environments.
You’ll partner closely with stakeholders across the business to advise on day-to-day legal matters, strengthen compliance, support risk management, and contribute to strategic legal activities across Australia and New Zealand. You’ll collaborate with legal teams in APAC, US and Europe and gain unmatched exposure working within a global organisation known for innovation, trusted legal solutions, and a values-led culture.
This is a permanent full-time role to be based in either Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Wellington or Auckland for the right candidate with the option of combined home/office-based arrangements for a flexible work-life balance.
Responsibilities:
Provide timely, accurate and commercially focused legal advice across the Pacific business
Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and documents
Advise on regulatory impacts including data, privacy, tech and AI considerations
Monitor changes in law, policy and regulation and advise on implications for the business
Support stakeholder training + day-to-day legal clinics
Collaborate closely with Senior Legal Counsel, Head of Legal and global colleagues
Requirements:
Australian or NZ practising certificate
6+ years PQE (law firm or in-house legal)
Experience in commercial / corporate / litigation / IT / IP law
Passion / interest in AI, legal technology or exposure working with AI tools/projects highly regarded
Strong drafting, negotiating + commercial judgement
Collaborative mindset, strong communication, high integrity
