Purpose:

The position originates in the constructive and pre-operational stage of the Terminal, evolving in functions and responsibilities until the present day, where it is in charge of executing crucial tasks in the day-to-day operational life of the legal department and the Terminal.

The purpose of this position to support the legal team on all issues relating to day to day. The scope of the job encompasses all legal matters relating to public law, maritime law, civil law, criminal law, commercial law, labour law, insurance law etc. as well as issues related to real estate, customs  and other areas.

Principal Accountabilities:

This role will be responsible of the following tasks:

  • Responsible for managing communications and monitoring the contractual compliance of suppliers as well as the notification of applicable contractual sanctions.

  • Responsible for monitoring the administrative proceses of receiving, reviewing and approving invoices in the designated tool ,for the legal department.

  • Responsible for validating the process of inclusion and compliance of business policies in services contracts. in conjunction with the procurement department and category owners.

  • Assist the legal team on all issues relating to local legislation in all areas and required regulatory requirements from various local bodies.

  • Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations, and legal articles.

  • Conduct investigations and statistical/documentary research.

  • Providing administrative support to the legal area and enhance office effectiveness.

  • Gather and arrange documents for the attorney to review in preparation for administrative hearings, court dates or trials.

  • Assist by handling exhibits, taking notes, or reviewing trial transcripts.

  • Draft and review legal correspondence,  and official company notes, among others legal documents.

  • Draft, advice, review and negotiate on customer and procurement contracting requirements by any department of the Company.

  • Get affidavits and other formal statements that may be needed.

  • Conduct research, follow ups and reports on specific assignments as requested by the Legal Management.

  • Claims Handling: Assist with the review, assignment and investigation of received claims; as well as with the drafting of required notifications and resolutions pertaining to the outcome of the claim's procedures.

  • Comply with all other assignments related to the position as requested by the Legal Manager.

  • Work on corporate governance issues.

  • Advise the business regarding laws and regulations affecting commercial relationships.

  • In the position, you must stay up to date with all changes in laws and regulatory issues applicable to the company, in order to ensure its correct operation in accordance with the law.

Critical Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with law, legal procedures and protocols, and court system.

  • Law Degree and include in the Colegio de Abogados.

  • 3 to 5 years' experience in legal matters preferably in the public law, port sector, customs, administrative law or in transportation.

  • Satisfactory knowledge of day-to-day operations of a legal office.

  • The incumbent must be able to communicate fluently in English (both verbally and in writing).

  • Ability to juggle multiple activities and work under pressure.

  • Must have ability to anticipate problems, manage prevention, recognize key issues in problems and create contingency plans and alternative solutions.

  • Exhibits sound judgment, measures results and takes corrective action when needed. Exhibit effective negotiation skills.

  • Have excellent people skills, contribute in maintaining an environment of effective communication and respect.
