Legal Counsel (EMEALA), Cambridge UK

Hybrid working arrangement

As Legal Counsel here at Illumina supporting the EMEALA region, you will provide comprehensive, business-oriented legal advice across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. This role acts as a trusted legal partner to the business, working closely with Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, Corporate, and Operations teams to enable compliant, efficient, and customer-focused outcomes. You will support a broad range of commercial, transactional, and operational matters while helping the business anticipate risk, move with confidence, and deliver on its commitments. Why You:

You are a qualified lawyer with a current practicing certificate in a common-law jurisdiction and bring several years post-qualification experience from a law firm and/or an in-house environment. You have strong commercial judgment and a practical, solution-oriented mindset, enabling you to translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable advice aligned with business priorities. Your background includes demonstrable experience supporting Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, Corporate, and Operations teams, with a solid understanding of supply chain operations and related commercial and regulatory considerations. You are highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple complex matters in a fast-paced, international environment.

You communicate with clarity and confidence, build trusted relationships, and act with integrity, reflecting Illumina’s commitment to Be Accountable. Fluency in English is essential; additional languages are an advantage but are not required.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of domestic and international commercial agreements with customers, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and partners

  • Provide timely, high-quality, and pragmatic legal support aligned with business objectives and Legal department goals

  • Act as lead legal advisor for supply chain–related agreements, including supplier, manufacturing, distribution, logistics, material transfer, confidentiality, and other inbound supply or services contracts

  • Advise on procurement, sourcing, supplier management, and operational matters from a legal, compliance, and risk perspective

  • Support supply chain–related regulatory requirements, trade compliance obligations, and internal policies across multiple jurisdictions

  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders to address legal, compliance, and process issues, and contribute to policy development and legal initiatives

  • Direct and manage internal and external counsel on matters relevant to supported functions and regional entities

  • Support corporate governance and ongoing maintenance of corporate entities across the region

  • Deliver training and practical guidance to business teams to promote legal awareness and risk mitigation

  • Mentor and support junior legal team members, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing

  • Drive continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, and systems, embracing Innovate with Purpose to improve efficiency and effectiveness
