The Opportunities:
The Legal Counsel and Assistant Company Secretary supports the Company Secretary and Senior Legal Counsel in the effective governance of all AIA Australia companies, with a focus on meeting statutory and regulatory obligations. It also involves providing legal advice on regulatory and governance matters, along with other legal issues as required from time to time.
The role holds primary responsibility for the AIA Financial Wellbeing Board and also assists in the management of the AIA Australia and AIA Health Insurance Boards and Committees.
To do this successfully you will:
· Company Secretarial responsibilities for the AIA Financial Wellbeing subsidiary, under the supervision of the Company Secretary and Senior Legal Counsel.
· Support the governance requirements of the AIA Australia and AIA Health Insurance Boards and Committees.
· Management of information requests from internal and external parties, including audit requests.
· Provision of legal advice on regulatory and governance matters, and preparation and submission of required documents, forms and returns to ASIC and APRA.
· Risk and stakeholder management, including acting as the Line 1 risk champion and communicating with senior internal leaders and external auditors.
Successful applications will demonstrate:
· Qualification as an Australian Lawyer with a current practising certificate, with a Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance preferred.
· Minimum 4 years experience as a lawyer, with preferred experience in company secretarial work and exposure to an APRA regulated environment.
· Strong organisational and time management capability, high discretion, and exceptional attention to detail in document preparation.
· Strong verbal and very strong written communication skills, with a broad and practical understanding of the regulatory environment and relevant governance legislation.
· Commitment to championing the Risk Management framework, embedding a risk mindset in decision making, and role modelling AIA’s Operating Philosophy.
