Job:

Lecturer of Sociology

The Department of Sociology at Barnard College seeks a full-time Lecturer in the Global Politics of Migration, to start July 1, 2026. We seek a sociologist with strong teaching interests, and expertise, in political sociology and the sociology of immigration, with a global and comparative perspective on the movement of people displaced by political, economic, or environmental disruptions.

We welcome applicants with any regional focus, and we are particularly interested in candidates whose approach emphasizes how transnational processes shape social and political dynamics within the U.S. The successful candidate will contribute actively to the department by teaching both introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in political sociology, global migration, and transnationalism; offering at least one of the core courses for our majors (Social Theory, Research Methods, or The Social World); and advising undergraduate sociology majors and mentoring senior thesis students.

This is a full-time renewable position with a six-course annual teaching load. We especially value faculty whose teaching brings global, critical and inclusive perspectives into the classroom. Review of applications will begin on January 20, 2026 and continue until the position is filled.
