About Us

Commencing operations at the beginning of 2023, the new School of IT at Murdoch University provides excellent teaching and research facilities, with over 35 academic staff. The school offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses located both in Perth and transnationally in Singapore, Dubai, and Malaysia.

The school’s teaching programs build on Murdoch’s extensive experience in scientific training and research across the whole discipline of IT.  The school has key IT research strengths in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Image Processing and Computer Graphics, Cyber Security and Networking, and Business information Systems.

The school is growing in student numbers with around 1000 students at Perth and 500+ transnationally.

The Roles

Murdoch University are currently seeking to appoint passionate teachers and researchers at the lecturer B and C levels. Within the School of IT. We are particularly looking for people with interests both research and teaching in the following areas:

  • Games Development
  • Software development
  • Financial technology
  • Cybersecurity and Networking

 -As well as combinations of the above and interest in developing industry links and research projects across IT.

  Academic staff at Murdoch are expected to contribute to research and HDR supervision as well as teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. More details about the school can be found at:

What you’ll bring to this role

 We are looking for people who would like to develop their career here at Murdoch, and potential for development and enthusiasm for the role is more important than simply track-record.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with a PhD, or equivalent, peer-reviewed publications and possibly industry experience relevant to the area. We expect academic staff to at these levels  to commit to developing their teaching and research skills and impact.  The school teaches a number of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees which cover the whole of IT including:

  • Networking
  • AI
  • Computer Science
  • Games Technology and Design
  • Business Information Systems
  • Cybersecurity
  • Data Science, Analytics and Financial Technology

The successful applicants will be expected to join one or more of the existing four research groups in the school:

  • Business Information Systems
  • Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision
  • Cyber Security and computer Networks
  • eXtended Reality, Visualisation and Simulation

The school also has a wide range of collaborations with other parts of Murdoch and the research institutes and in the wider world, and we encourage staff to actively develop these links.

What you’ll get in return

This Continuous Full Time (37.5 hours per week) attracts a remuneration of Level B $113,247– $134,148, Level C $138,321 - $159,219 plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • A PhD in Computer Science, IT, software engineering or a closely related area, and the ability to meet the requirements for membership of the Australian Computer Society.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching IT subjects as undergraduate and postgraduate level, or two or more years of postdoctoral or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work under broad direction only, exercise initiative in undertaking responsibilities and work effectively as a team member.
  • Desire to be involved in developing external collaborations and outreach.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary approaches to curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary and collegial team.
  • Demonstrated high levels of written and oral communication skills in English.
