Abbott Diabetes Care has opened  a new site, in Kilkenny, that is  at the forefront of Diabetes care with the latest technology, to manufacture FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre systems.

The Purpose of the Learning & Development Specialist is to:

Design, deliver and administer the organization's training programs in accordance with the organization's training and development plan to enhance the capability and performance of individual employees aligned with the current and future strategy of the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze the training needs of employees, teams and the organisation to develop training programs that enhances capability, skills, and performance.

  • Design, resource, and deliver talent development programs, or recommend externally-provided programs, which meet the needs of individuals and are consistent with the organization’s overall training plan.

  • Develop expertise to coach employees and teams about the organization's learning and development programs and policies; arrange for them to participate in internal and external training so the organization’s training resources are allocated effectively and aligned with the strategic intent.

  • Measure, maintain and analyze organization and individual training records in order to monitor the effectiveness of internal and external training programs.

  • Consult with business and functional leadership to understand business problems and identify opportunities to enhance performance and develop talent. Anticipate future development needs based on business requirements and changes.

  • Build strong relationships within the site, at division and corporate level to ensure alignment of the Learning and development strategy locally and the opportunities to leverage Abbott programs.

  • Keep abreast of developments and innovations in training and education in industry and government education sectors so the organization’s training activities remain current and relevant.

  • Site lead for to support Audits from L&D perspective; site lead for further education strategy as part of overall plan to build a HPO. 

  • Manage site budget & application of training grants of Government based training supports.

  • Ensure compliance to AQR, FDA, ISO and division training policies, ensure plant training curriculums, and Compliance Wire/LMS requirements and training forms are maintained accurately at all times.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A third‑level qualification in Training & Development, HR, Business, Management, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Learning and Development role or equivalent; experience within the manufacturing industry is an advantage.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Proven ability to work effectively on their own initiative as a self‑starter.

  • Strong data‑driven decision‑making skills.

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory / ADDIE is desirable.

  • Experience managing government training grants or learning funds is desirable.
