Summary

The Lead Warehouse Technician is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse operations supporting ILG’s International Tile & Stone (I.T.S.) Division, ensuring the accurate receipt, staging, storage, and distribution of interior finishing materials such as tile, stone, mosaics, waterproof flooring, carpet, wall veneers, and installation products. This role provides hands-on leadership, guiding warehouse personnel, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring all warehouse activities meet company safety, quality, and operational standards. The Lead Warehouse Technician acts as a key support to the Warehouse Manager and assumes leadership responsibilities in their absence.

Essential Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations & Oversight

  • Oversee daily warehouse operations and personnel, ensuring workflow efficiency and task accuracy.

  • Lead warehouse staff in the absence of the Warehouse Manager, maintaining productivity and adherence to operational priorities.

  • Assign and distribute picking tickets across warehouse teams to organize workflow and ensure timely completion.

  • Create and print pallet tags for dispatch orders and verify outbound paperwork against physical counts and load sheets.

  • Audit outbound orders for completeness and accuracy prior to loading or shipment.

  • Load, unload, and stage materials including tile, stone, mosaics, wall veneers, carpet, and waterproof flooring.

  • Handle and protect fragile or high-value materials using appropriate bracing, strapping, and padding techniques.

  • Ensure warehouse areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with company safety policies and OSHA standards.

Inventory & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate inventory of all materials, including installation supplies and accessories.

  • Conduct routine inventory checks and cycle counts to ensure data integrity and resolve discrepancies.

  • Support incoming and outgoing shipment verification, ensuring correct documentation and labeling.

  • Collaborate with purchasing, inventory control, and shipping departments to manage material flow and maintain proper stock levels.

Team Leadership & Training

  • Provide direction, training, and support to warehouse team members, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and efficiency.

  • Serve as a mentor to new warehouse staff, demonstrating best practices in material handling and equipment operation.

  • Encourage teamwork and continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements to improve productivity and reduce waste.

Equipment Operation & Safety

  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment in compliance with company and OSHA standards.

  • Ensure all warehouse personnel follow company safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques and PPE usage.

  • Report equipment issues and coordinate maintenance to prevent downtime.

Customer & Vendor Support

  • Assist customers, installers, and vendors with material pickups and supply fulfillment as needed.

  • Collaborate with drivers and logistics staff to ensure timely and accurate material deliveries.

  • Provide courteous and professional communication when handling customer or vendor interactions.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Perform additional tasks or participate in special projects as directed by leadership to support overall warehouse operations.

Education & Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 3+ years of experience in warehouse operations, logistics, or material handling.

  • Proven ability to lead or coordinate a team in a fast-paced distribution environment.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in flooring, tile, or interior finishes warehouse operations.

  • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification.

  • Experience working with construction materials or homebuilding supply distribution.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Standing, bending, and walking for extended periods throughout the workday.

  • Work in warehouse environments with exposure to varying temperatures, equipment noise, and dust.

Work Environment

  • Warehouse and yard setting with daily interaction between operations, logistics, and delivery teams.

  • Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as outlined by company policy.

  • May require overtime or flexible hours based on shipping schedules and business needs.
