About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Systems Operations Engineer in technology as part of Commercial and Corporate & Investment Banking Technology (CCIBT). This role will lead the end‑to‑end strategy for migrating a large, mission‑critical capital markets platform from on‑premise bare metal to a cloud‑native architecture, including roadmap creation, sequencing, dependency mapping, cutover planning, and risk mitigation. The position will establish and embed SRE practices across legacy and target platforms, provide expert guidance on distributed caching, multi‑tenant design, performance tuning, and scaling for high‑throughput, low‑latency systems, and define governance standards for Kubernetes/OpenShift and related platform components. Responsibilities include implementing observability best practices, managing L2/L3 escalations and RCAs, driving automation for full cluster lifecycle operations, and owning key decisions across migration patterns, tuning, security, networking, and DR strategies. The role also partners closely with engineering, architecture, operations, QA, security, and product teams, while providing hands‑on technical leadership to elevate engineering and operational excellence.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex, broad impact initiatives including provision of high level systems consultation for the technology teams
  • Work as key participant in large scale planning of computer systems and network infrastructure for Systems Operations functional area
  • Review and analyze complex technical challenges, as well as escalated support issues related to core business solutions that require in depth evaluation of multiple factors, such as alternatives, enhancements, periodic systems reviews, or improvements to existing systems
  • Make decisions on technical changes and enhancements
  • Consult with engineering team on change design requiring solid understanding of technical process controls or standards that influence and drive new initiatives
  • Collaborate and consult with technical peers, colleagues, and mid to more experienced level managers to resolve systems support issues and achieve goals

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Systems Engineering, Technology Architecture experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of application/platform production support in complex, high‑availability environments in capital markets (trading, risk, market data, real‑time platforms)
  • 4+ years deploying and operating applications at scale using Docker, Kubernetes, and/or OpenShift
  • 3+ years using observability tools such as Splunk, ELK, Grafana, and Prometheus
  • 1+ years in supporting and scaling distributed caching/data grid platforms (e.g., Oracle Coherence, Apache Ignite, GridGain, or similar) in multi‑tenant environments

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3+ years with PowerShell, Bash, Ansible or Python (infrastructure and operational automation)
  • 3+ years of application/platform modernization using containers
  • 3+ years supporting Red Hat, Linux, or UNIX in enterprise environments
  • 3+ years of experience with JAVA or .NET
  • 3+ years with partitioned caches, backup/replicas, near/extend clients, federation strategies, JVM/GC tuning, and network/memory optimization for large object graphs
  • Strong understanding of microservices, service mesh, pod scheduling/affinity, network policies, ingress/egress, persistent storage strategies, and multi‑cluster/federation
  • Experience in capacity modeling, forecasting, load testing, and performance engineering for high‑throughput/low‑latency systems
  • Experience operating in enterprise/regulated environments, with strong written, verbal, and cross‑functional communication skills

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$143,000.00 - $224,000.00
