Role Summary

Independently conducts legal research, drafting legal documents, and performing other legal-related duties under the guidance of attorneys. In some areas of the firm, focuses on legal activities related to multiple specific products and/or services. Responsible for the accuracy and completion of own work and assigns tasks to less experienced staff; contributes to team objectives. Provides guidance to less experienced staff and takes the lead on review, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of various rules and regulations. Legal activities completed are typically highly complex.

Responsibilities:

  • Drafts, prepares, and processes high-complexity legal documents and contracts for general or specific areas of the legal practice, including business partners and/or designated clients, regulators, investors, and outside attorneys. Reviews work and draft preparation and processing completed by less experienced professionals for accuracy and completeness and assigns tasks.
  • Identifies, researches, analyzes, comments on, responds to, and monitors highly complex legal issues pertaining to their area of expertise and the area of business they support.
  • Compiles highly complex information from a variety of sources and prepares responses to legal information requests from outside counsel, regulatory and judicial bodies, investors, or other stakeholders. Contributes to the development of protocols for updating database files and electronic documentation systems that ensure accuracy and completeness of and preserve and protect sensitive information. Determines implications of, and advises business partners on, any new regulations or new or revised business processes to influence the business unit to comply with the changes.
  • Independently conducts and may lead others in fact-finding and legal or regulatory research. Prepares findings for review by attorneys, checks findings prepared by less experienced staff, and works directly with attorneys to determine whether gaps in findings exist and how to make improvements. Frequently provides input into potential actions or subsequent research based on findings.
  • Maintains essential relationships with outside counsel and staff to ensure that engagements are effective and less experienced legal administration staff are receiving the critical information they need. Determines when additional inputs from outside counsel and staff are needed. Responsible for completing a preliminary review of content and providing an overview for attorneys.
  • As a senior professional, often leads multiple project teams of other senior professional staff and legal support staff involved with large-scale legal matters, implementation of new regulatory rules, or implementation of new products and services.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND
  • 8+ years of total relevant work experience
