Position Overview

At Insulet, the makers of Omnipod, we are dedicated to our purpose — to improve the lives of people with diabetes. We are growing and scaling rapidly, and as a result we are investing in a master data management program to strengthen our data capabilities, working across prioritized domains. As part of this, we will build a new specialist Data Steward team in Insulet Global Business Services. This team will play a crucial role in enhancing our data capabilities, ensuring data integrity, and driving innovation across our organization. By leveraging advanced data management techniques, we aim to improve operational efficiency, support data-driven decision-making, and ultimately deliver better outcomes for our customers and patients.

We are seeking an expert Lead Data Steward, to drive work in the Health Care Practitioner (HCP) data domain, supporting the Data Owner for the domain. The role requires a deep understanding of data management practices, and good knowledge of the Salesforce platform. You will work to support the Data Owner, collaborating closely with data users, IT teams, and other stakeholders to implement data governance policies and procedures. You will need strong collaboration and coordination skills and will project manage several people.

The successful candidate will have a background in customer master data management and Salesforce. Ideally, they would also have prior knowledge of data management in a life science organization, including the associated regulatory requirements relating to customer data.

Main Responsibilities

Support Data Owner

  • Manage data domain operations on behalf of the Data Owner – including the below tasks

  • Develop deep domain expertise

  • Prepare domain packs for governance meetings

  • Escalate topics and decisions to data owner

  • Manage deployed data steward team – in-house and temporary if needed

Maintain domain master data

  • Create, update and deactivate master data

  • Review, approve, reject data requests

  • Request and manage mass updates (CTO performed)

Monitor data quality

  • Set and monitor KPIs, drawing actionable conclusions

  • Perform proactive assessments

  • Support audits

Clean data

  • Coordinate one-time data cleaning activities – project, business, and CTO team members

  • Coordinate always-on cleaning activities

Manage data governance

  • Set data standards for the domain

  • Maintain data model for domain

  • Apply data policies to the domain

  • Ensure agreed controls – e.g. privacy, security

Manage issues

  • Log and resolve all data issues

  • Escalate issues to Data Owner and CTO teams

Manage data systems requirements

  • Provide domain requirements for data systems and data model development

  • Participate in system changes and data updates

Maintain documentation

  • Maintain documentation for the data domain – domain specific policies, processes, controls

  • Liaise with Global Process Owner (if different from Data Owner)

  • Maintain meta data definitions (in Atlan)

Manage training and change management

  • Train users and leaders on domain data standards and practices

  • Develop informed user groups

Continuous improvement

  • Maintain CI backlog

  • Action CI projects

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant analytical subject, such as Data Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline

  • A master's degree in a related field would be an advantage

  • 4-6 years of experience in data management and data governance

  • Experience with data quality management, data lineage, and data privacy regulations

  • Experience of working in a global business services team, and / or commercial services organization

Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Business acumen. An ability to demonstrate an understanding of how data supports business objectives and business processes. An appreciation for the analytics and visualization techniques that data users will want to use.

  • Technical skills. Knowledge of the core data repositories for the domain (Salesforce) and core data management systems (e.g., Databricks, MuleSoft, Salesforce Lightning, Atlan)

  • Data governance. Experience implementing and managing successful data governance arrangements.

  • Data quality management. Knowledge of data quality assessment and improvement techniques.

  • Communication and collaboration. To be successful, the Lead Data Steward will need to liaise with various stakeholders and effectively lead a team without operational control.

  • Problem solving and adaptability. The ability to address and solve complex data-related issues, including guiding data users through changes effectively. Remaining up to date with the latest tools and methods, in a fast-moving data environment.
