Lead Data Analyst / Data Engineering Lead

Spring, Texas, United States of America Full time
Lead Data Analyst / Data Engineering Lead

Description -

We are looking for a hands-on Lead Analyst plus Technical Project Leader to drive multiple data engineering initiatives within the Data Platforms and Engineering team. This role requires deep familiarity with HP’s finance processes and strong working knowledge of the Federated Data Lake (FDL) architecture, data engineering frameworks, and metadata-driven pipeline patterns.

This person will wear multiple hats – business analyst, data analyst, project lead, and technical guide – while coordinating across business stakeholders, contract workforce, and internal finance operations teams. The ideal candidate understands both the business logic behind the data and the technical implementation details of how data products are built, governed, deployed, and supported at HP.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate multiple data engineering projects in risk & compliance, platform engineering and finance domains, from initial requirement definition through delivery and operational transition.

  • Independently evaluate options and make informed decisions across technical design, process changes, and financial implications; balance risks vs benefits and provide unbiased, fact-based recommendations.

  • Act as primary liaison between business stakeholders, product owners, and data engineering teams to clarify requirements, refine acceptance criteria, and ensure solutions align with HP data standards.

  • Perform detailed data analysis, source-to-target mapping, data profiling, and validation across Finance data sets.

  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance to data engineers building pipelines on FDL (ABCR/DLT, Spark, Delta, SQL, etc.).

  • Deep practical understanding of FDL platform standards, architecture patterns, cybersecurity guidelines, and data governance principles to ensure that project teams adheres to set policies.

  • Manage contract workforce and vendor resources; coordinate delivery expectations, work assignments, quality checks, and timelines.

  • Partner with internal finance operations teams to support cross-charging, flash forecasts, and quarterly/hard-close cycles.

  • Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans across workstreams.

  • Communicate status, milestones, risks, and decisions to leadership in a clear and concise manner.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Hands-on experience with HP’s Federated Data Lake (FDL) architecture and data engineering frameworks, including metadata-driven pipelines.

  • Ability to analyze complex data problems and translate business requirements into executable data models and data pipelines.

  • Strong working knowledge of HP’s Finance business processes (e.g., Spend, Expense, Cost Centers, OPEX, Forecasting, Flash cycles, etc.).

  • Proficient in SQL; familiarity with Databricks/Spark, Delta Lake, and Azure-based data ecosystem.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple parallel projects and drive outcomes across matrixed teams.

  • Experience managing contract / vendor engineering teams, including sizing work, monitoring progress, and ensuring delivery quality.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with senior business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in data analytics, data engineering and business systems analysis within large enterprises.

  • Experience delivering reporting and analytics solutions in HP.

  • Familiarity with HP internal tools, FDL processes, platform governance, cyber/privacy review cycles, and release management processes.

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Understands both the business meaning of the data and the technical path it takes through the data platform.

  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and multiple initiatives run in parallel.

  • Can lead without positional authority and drive clarity across stakeholders.

The base pay range for this role is $130,700 to $205,200 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only).  Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
