Who we are looking for:

As part of the State Street DMC ARO team, you will be focused on the reliability and stability of our production applications, with an eye on the client experience. This role is an Application Reliability Operations (ARO) position, focused on supporting AWS-hosted, data-intensive production systems. • Provide calm, effective leadership during incidents, ensuring timely engagement of required teams and participation in 24x7 production support coverage.

Monitoring, Observability & Proactive Detection:

  • Monitor and troubleshoot application, data, and infrastructure health using AWS CloudWatch, Databricks job/workflow monitoring, application logs, and container health checks.
  • Analyze incident trends, Databricks job failures, and infrastructure metrics to proactively identify risks and prevent repeat issues.

Automation & Operational Improvement:

  • Drive automation and self-healing initiatives to reduce manual operational effort across application support, cloud infrastructure, and batch processing.
  • Partner with technical teams to implement operational improvements using scripting and platform provided capabilities.

Data & Batch Processing Reliability:

  • Ensure reliability of batch-oriented data processing by understanding application flows, Bronze/Silver/Gold dependencies, and upstream/downstream integrations.
  • Monitor and support data ingestion and delivery processes (SFTP, JDBC feeds, scheduled AWS Glue jobs), ensuring SLA adherence.

Collaboration, Documentation & Release Governance:

  • Work closely with Dev and L4 teams on incident triage and release/change reviews, validating deployment health and rollback readiness in CI/CD driven releases.
  • Maintain high-quality operational documentation in ServiceNow and runbooks, and provide clear, regular updates to stakeholders during incidents and operational events.

Technology skill sets:

  • Core (Must-have)
  • Java (Spring Boot – application support and troubleshooting)
  • Unix / Linux
  • AWS Cloud (EC2, ECS, ALB, CloudWatch)
  • Containerized application support – Docker / ECS
  • Incident, problem, and change management using Service-Now.

Exposure / Working Knowledge:

  • Databricks (job and workflow monitoring)
  • Batch processing & data ingestion (SFTP / JDBC / AWS Glue)
  • REST APIs
  • CI/CD driven release operations (deployment validation and rollback readiness)
  • Monitoring and alerting using AWS CloudWatch

Nice-to-Have:

  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot across application, data, and infrastructure layers in distributed environments
  • Ability to operate effectively around workflow-‑driven and scheduled processing systems

  • Experience collaborating through ITSM and log based‑ monitoring tools to support operational outcomes

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

  • Strong understanding of the software delivery lifecycle using Agile practices and controlled release processes
  • Ownership mindset with the ability to take accountability for production stability, incident outcomes, and service reliability
  • Ability to operate calmly and effectively under pressure during major incidents and high impact‑ production events
  • Bias toward automation and continuous operational improvement rather than repetitive manual support
  • Curiosity and learning mindset to understand complex systems, failure patterns, and evolving technologies over time

Education & Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or related degree preferred.
  • 10 – 15 years application support experience, Middle Office experience preferred
