Melbourne Full time

About Opteon

Opteon is a leading international provider of valuations, advisory, and specialist property services across Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. As the largest valuation professional services firm in these regions, we deliver meaningful insights and solutions across all property types and market sectors.

We are entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation—driven by innovation, diversification, and international expansion. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of a business that is redefining how data and analytics power decision-making in property services.

About the Role

We’re building a modern, global data ecosystem and this is a pivotal role within it.

As Lead Analytics Engineer, you will own the analytics consumption layer across our enterprise data platform. This is a senior, hands-on role where you’ll lead the design and delivery of dbt models in Snowflake and shape a trusted, scalable Power BI semantic layer that supports consistent, high-quality reporting across multiple regions.

Reporting to the Senior Solutions Architect, you’ll operate as a technical leader without direct reports setting standards, guiding best practice, and uplifting the capability of analysts embedded across the business.

You’ll collaborate closely with domain experts, platform engineers, and stakeholders to ensure that metrics are not just technically sound, but meaningful, trusted, and actionable in real-world use.

This is also an opportunity to influence how we responsibly adopt AI-enabled analytics and semantic models as the foundation for the next generation of business intelligence.

About you

  • Lead the development of production-grade dbt models and data marts in Snowflake, with a strong focus on testing, documentation, and maintainability

  • Own the Power BI ecosystem, including semantic models, enterprise datasets, DAX, and performance-optimised reporting patterns

  • Define and embed trusted metrics, conformed dimensions, and reusable BI standards across the organisation

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to distributed analysts—uplifting capability across SQL, dbt, and Power BI

  • Partner with business SMEs to translate complex requirements into robust, agreed data definitions

  • Collaborate with data platform teams (AWS, Airflow, Meltano) to align on pipelines, contracts, and SLAs

  • Champion data quality and trust—ensuring clarity of lineage, proactive issue resolution, and executive-ready outputs

  • Operate effectively across a global, hybrid environment, balancing priorities and stakeholder needs

  • Contribute to evaluating and piloting AI-driven analytics capabilities, with a focus on practical value and governance

About You

You’re a technically strong, commercially minded analytics engineer who enjoys shaping how data is used at scale.

You will bring:

  • Deep experience in analytics engineering, including advanced SQL, dbt Core, and Snowflake (or similar cloud data platforms)

  • Strong expertise in Power BI, including semantic modelling, DAX, and building enterprise-grade reporting layers

  • Proven ability to lead through influence, setting standards and guiding teams without formal people management

  • A solid foundation in dimensional modelling and BI design principles

  • Exceptional communication skills—able to bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders

Highly Regarded

  • Experience with Apache Airflow, Meltano, or similar orchestration tools

  • Exposure to AWS-based data platforms

  • Practical Python skills for automation or analytics

  • Interest in AI within the analytics stack, particularly semantic models and trustworthy AI-assisted BI
