We are looking for Large Motor Reliability Specialist to join Kaiser Aluminum Warrick Operations in Newburgh, Indiana!
The Large Motor Reliability Specialist is responsible for the 24/7 support of Warrick’s critical motors, breakers, and auxiliary support of the plant’s power system. The successful candidate will be accountable for providing engineering expertise to the utilities crews, general service operations, and plant management to ensure Environmental, Health, and Safety results, productivity and maintenance improvements, employee development, and customer delivery through implementation of lean principles, including daily management, TPM and 5S.

What you will work on:
- Provide expertise for these systems: Critical AC/DC Motors, breakers and provide backup support to the Plant Power system.
- Capital project research, management, and execution.
- Provide project leadership to support assigned equipment.
- Utilize technical knowledge and experience for technical troubleshooting and project development.
- Utilizes project management skills and concepts to execute technical projects with an interdisciplinary project team, from planning stage to realization and start-up.
- Preparation of training, operation, maintenance, and start up documentation for assigned assets.
- Support plant improvements through reduced variability and increased reliability of assigned assets.
- Develop, track, and report key performance indicators for assigned equipment.
- Review/develop AM/PM/PdM activities for all assigned equipment to minimize operational cost, downtime, and increase equipment life.
- Support AM/PM/PdM activities through necessary TPM Training and Development pillar commitments, skills matrix development for area needs. Close skill gap year over year
- Participate in AM/PM/PdM deployment and site Master plan attainment.
- Drive process upset elimination using Maintenance prevention methods and Best Practices
- Drive progressive problem solving to root cause elimination countermeasures Provide site-wide engineering to support critical motor operation & reliability.
- Utilize technical knowledge and experience for troubleshooting and project development.
- Utilize project management skills and concepts to execute technical projects from planning stage to realization and start-up.
- Develop, maintain, and execute long-term maintenance and repair/ Upgrade plan for assigned assets.
- Develop yearly and a 5 year look ahead projected spend for critical motors plant wide.
- Develop, track, and report key performance indicators for critical motors.
- Identify key opportunities for single point failures and mitigate risk.
- Prepare for future rebuilds, commissioning new area equipment and associate training for assigned equipment.
- Initiate and lead continuous improvement activities related to critical motors.
About you:
- Associate’s degree in engineering or technology from an accredited college/university.
- You must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, have excellent team and people skills for driving change, and be able to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong AC/DC Electric motor knowledge, some Drives and power system background
- Possess strong problem-solving aptitude, and willingness to lead problem solving efforts.
- Four plus years of experience in heavy industry, utilities, or manufacturing environment with emphasis on Rotating equipment.
- Strong understanding of EASA, IEEE, NEMA and ANSI standards as applied to Electric Motors.
- Strong organizational skills
- Proficient writing skills
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college/university or experience and schooling.
- SME level experience with large AC/DC motors, Plant Power systems (internal suppot and external utility interface).
- Experience in reliability systems and tools.
- Experience in Root Cause Problem Solving.
