About the internship:  

The Lancet is a world-renowned medical journal that now comprises a suite of monthly specialty titles in addition to the weekly general medical title established in 1823. All the journals employ full-time professional editors, most of whom are based in our main office in London. We handle a high volume of cutting-edge research submissions and pride ourselves on offering a personalised service to the authors who publish with us. The Editorial Intern would immerse themselves in the daily activities of a peer review editor, with opportunities to experience and assist with other aspects of journal operation such as production, multimedia, communications, and press office.    

Responsibilities:  

  • Use Elsevier’s Scopus database to search for experts to act as peer reviewers

  • Assist with preparation for twice-weekly editorial meetings

  • Use image libraries to source photographs to illustrate key papers

  • Attend departmental meetings

  • Option to shadow other departments such as production, multimedia, communications, and press office

Skills or experiences:  

  • Studying for or achieved a degree in a bioscience or health profession

  • PC literacy and experience with Office applications

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • An interest in critical analysis of health research
