Job Summary
The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for the breastfeeding patient, as well as for the parent breast pumping

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Provide out-patient consultation in person or by phone for breast feeding mothers requiring follow up or referrals to specific programs
• Facilitate educational forums for breastfeeding
• Serves as breastfeeding advocate, encouraging informed decisions
• All other related assigned duties

Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or GED
• +1 year of experience working with pregnant or women in post-partum

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
N/A

Skills and Abilities
• Excellent customer service skills; Must speak, read, and write English fluently
• Demonstrates the ability to perform electronic documentation in the electronic health record
• Demonstrates an understanding of basic medical terminology and abbreviations

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
The person in this role primarily interacts with expectant or post-partum mothers, nursing staff, vendors for breast feeding supplies, and community resources involved with patient care

Physical Capabilities
Occasionally exerts up to 20 lbs. exerts a small amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. Work involves sitting, standing and walking.

Environmental/Working Conditions
The lactation office hours are from 8am-12am, weekdays, weekends, and some holidays and 24 hour pager responsibility. This position is an inside work environment only.
