Job Summary: This position is located in any of the jurisdictions in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Client Services Division, Labor and Custodial Branch, Day/Night Labor and Custodial Section.
Major Duties:
- The tour of duty for this position is Monday-Friday 5:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. This position is emergency essential. Depending on the type of emergency, the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations. The incumbent is a Laborer (Recycler), performing a wide range of laborer duties including setting up and arranging furniture; moving furniture, supplies, boxes and construction materials; operating floor care equipment; and performing other cleaning and maintenance tasks. Duties include, but are not limited to: Load and unload heavy boxes, bulky supplies and heavy construction building materials and supplies to and from trucks; move heavy boxes and cartons by hand, hand truck or dolly; open crates and boxes using crowbars and cut bands using shears; and stack boxes and cartons where directed. Collect trash and debris, including horticultural debris, from Congressional Buildings and surrounding grounds. Empty trash, garbage and other debris from receptacles located throughout the building and the grounds. Clear snow and ice from building entrances, spread salt and pick up litter. Pick up trash and deliver it to the trash room. Wash ceiling fixtures, room partitions and venetian blinds using ladders and scaffolds. Wash windows on a specified schedule. Pre-vacuum or move heavy furniture, supplies and equipment as necessary. Sweep, vacuum, mop, strip, scrub, wax and polish floors with appropriate powered equipment including heavy buffing machines. Clean, adjust and oil powered equipment and changes rollers, buffers, brushes and other attachments as needed. Remove stains from a variety of surfaces such as carpeting, linoleum, vinyl tile, epoxy floor, wood, marble, tile, sandstone, bronze concrete, stainless steel, porcelain, glass and plastic by use of approved chemicals and specialized cleaning solutions. Clean, disinfect and deodorize lavatories, urinals and toilet bowls. Replace light bulbs/tubes throughout buildings using ladder and ensure that spent items are turned in according to environmental regulations. Collect and sort recyclable material, including aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles, newspaper and paper, from various locations within the buildings. Collect all wet waste material from various locations within buildings and reline all wet waste containers and dispose of all wet waste materials. Set up dining areas, meeting rooms, auditoriums, classrooms, etc., in various configurations for many types of events. Deliver pitchers and glasses and other supplies as needed. Clean, maintain and store meeting and special function equipment and furnishings. Move and arrange furniture and equipment for changes in room assignments or room configurations. Assist the shop offices’ trades personnel with short-term repair and construction projects, such as tearing down walls or ceilings using hand tools, in accordance with detailed oral or written instructions. Performs other related duties as assigned.
