Salary Range: $27.65 - $32.23 Per Hour

Job Summary: This is a temporary position not to exceed 1039 hours. This is an excepted service appointment, that remains in the excepted service indefinitely. These positions do not confer competitive status. The typical seasonal EOD period for this position is November through April, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: early to mid-December 2025.

Major Duties:

  • This position is located in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve in the Maintenance Division. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following: Operating light duty motor vehicles such as pickup trucks, sedans, flatbed trucks, etc., up to 10,000 pounds, over Federal, state, and country roads and city streets in all traffic conditions following applicable speeds, to transport personnel, supplies, materials, equipment, and tools throughout the park. Maintaining buildings, grounds, road, and trails by operating heavy power equipment and hand tools such as lawn mowers, portable snow blowers, shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment, tar pots, culvert steamers, brush chippers, power compactors, power saws, chainsaws, rock bars, picks, axes, crosscut saws, single-jack hammers, etc. Cleaning and maintaining equipment. Performing janitorial duties for buildings. Loading and unloading supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies. Moving heavy items using wheelbarrows and hand trucks. Moving furniture; removing and setting signs; painting picnic tables and signs; raking and watering lawns; trimming trees and shrubbery; picking up litter; cleaning fire pits, etc. Digging ditches and trenches with picks and shovels where soil is hard and compact and must be graded or sloped. Breaking up pavement, soil, or concrete; mixing and pouring concrete, asphalt, and hot/cold mix; filling and leveling holes in damaged roads. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Special knowledge or expertise concerning the park's or preserve's natural and/or cultural resources and the management thereof is required. Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of duties. -AND- Your resume must clearly show periods of time having lived or worked in or near the area of consideration. The area of consideration can be found in the below: Areas considered "near" Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is the area within the State of Alaska that extends from Dixon Entrance on the south to Icy Bay on the north.
