Job Description
The Receiving/Sample Preparation role is responsible for performing chemistry work instructions and quality system procedures within a food laboratory environment. This position supports chemistry sample preparation, sample login, and receipt of laboratory supplies.
Responsibilities include working in a high-throughput environment with repetitive tasks and utilizing LabWare LIMS functionality. The role requires the ability to work independently, resolve problems, maintain ISO records for process control, and comply with quality system and safety requirements. Team members will perform routine maintenance and calibration of instrumentation and must be able to quickly evaluate situations and respond appropriately.
Strong communication skills are essential, including proactive interaction with peers, supervisors, and customers. The individual must demonstrate an understanding of chemistry testing needs, communicate effectively with customers, and provide excellent customer service. Additional responsibilities include multitasking, maintaining excellent organizational skills, assisting in the training of less experienced team members, and performing other duties as assigned.
Other duties may include inventory management and/or ordering, receiving and logging laboratory supplies, and cleaning and organizing shared workspaces. Precision and accuracy in following applicable work instructions and data collection are essential. The role requires the ability to lift packages up to 50 pounds.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent with laboratory experience required
Preferred: College degree in chemistry, biochemistry, food science, or a related science
Preferred experience with sample login and expertise in a LIMS system
Strong reading comprehension skills required for self-guided learning and application of scientific materials and instructions
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of laboratory-related experience, including use of a LIMS system preferred.
Difficulty of Duties
Work activities are variable and require sound judgment to set priorities, work efficiently on repetitive tasks, and coordinate activities with others.
Training Programs
Training requirements for this job classification have been assessed by the appropriate management team member and are documented in the LIMS Training Manager. The amount and level of training required depend on the level of responsibility authorized for each team member and may vary.
Computer Skills
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office
Strong computer skills required, as laboratory operations are paperless and fully digitized
Expertise in LabWare LIMS functionality required
Physical Requirements
Must be able to safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds routinely
Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk, hear alarms and instrument signals, and visually inspect results
While handling chemicals, latex, nitrile, or equivalent gloves must be worn to prevent exposure to standard laboratory chemicals
