Position Overview

We are seeking a highly creative, fast and strategic part-time News Topical Producer to support KSL-TV News. In this role, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, writing, shooting, and editing high-impact daily news topicals that drive viewership on TV and audience engagement across all KSL platforms.

 

Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.

o   This position is an on-site role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Salt Lake City site.

o   Regular Shift hours are 5:30pm to 9:30pm Monday-Friday.

 

What You Will Do:

Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:

o   Content Production: Write and produce compelling daily news topicals for KSL-TV newscasts. Support social media efforts with reels and other content as needed.

o   Strategic Writing: Primary focus will be writing and editing high-speed “tune-in” teases for the evening’s newscast.

o   Post-Production & Editing: Proficiency in non-linear editing using Adobe Premiere Pro and the Creative Cloud suite, with the ability to produce high-quality work under deadline pressure.

o   Collaborative Planning: Attend daily news planning meetings to identify best stories to promote in the daily topical promos for both on-air and social. Collaborate with news producers, anchors and the creative team to align promotional content with editorial priorities.

o   Studio Production: Direct talent and crews on set during topical shoots; occasionally serve as photographer/videographer for custom promotional content.

o   Project Management: Oversee the entire news topical lifecycle, including promo scheduling using logs, voiceover supervision, and updating promos for breaking news. 

o   Other duties as assigned

 

 

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

o   Demo Reel: Demo reel is REQUIRED for all applicants.

o   Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field.

o   Experience: Minimum of one years of experience as a news topical producer in a newsroom or creative services department.

o   Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Adobe Premiere Pro and the ability to shoot your own footage. After Effects, and Photoshop knowledge is a plus!

o   Editorial Judgment: Strong news judgment and the ability to find the most "tune in worthy" elements of a story.

o   Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment. Must work effectively in a team environment.

o   Availability: Must be willing to work flexible shifts, including morning & nights, particularly breaking news events. This is a Monday – Friday position, but it will require some holidays and possible weekend shifts.

o   Ability to understand and follow instructions and work with minimum supervision.

o   Strong self-motivation, well organized, and dependable.

 

Physical Demands Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.

o   Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.

o   Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

o   Lift, move, and carry up to 40 pounds on occasion.

 

Compensation

 $22.00 - $25.00. Hourly rate to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
