VANDERLANDE

Junior Systems Energy Engineer

Veghel Full time

Job Title

Junior Systems Energy Engineer

Job Description

Do you have affinity with power topics on a system level and do you get triggered by improving the systems energy footprint of Vanderlande and our customers? Are you an analytical engineer with strong communication skills and a proactive mentality that likes to connect people? Don’t wait any longer and contact us now!

At Vanderlande we are committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2040. Therefore, we want to improve our knowledge of our material handling equipment and complex dynamic systems to more accurately predict how much energy a system is going to use.

This enables our sales teams to create more competitive offers to our customers, since energy consumption is a significant part of the OPEX (Operating Expenses), TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) analysis and CO2 footprint calculations. It will also support sales and engineering to accurately calculate the power requirements for a new site, which is another significant investment for our customers that we don’t want to overestimate.

Next to these benefits, more knowledge about system energy consumption can also help us to determine the most energy consuming elements in our systems. These insights will enable more energy efficient component and system designs and also provide opportunities to improve existing systems at customer sites.

Your team – Power & Energy Competence

Over the past six years, the Power & Energy competence has built a strong network of stakeholders from different departments. We have developed static and dynamic tools for power and energy predictions. Besides this, we started several measurement and improvement initiatives both internally and at customer sites, showing the benefits of improving power and energy, both from a sustainable and monetary point of view. Our consultancy services support all market segments and all phases of the life cycle of a system, from Technology and Sales to project execution and services. We have proven that these topics deserve priority and grown our expertise. Now we are looking for somebody to help us transfer our knowledge to other departments and develop new consultancy services.

Your department

The Simulation department, part of Innovation & Enabling Technologies, specializes in the analysis of system performance and system behavior by means of simulation models and operational data. The engineers within the department use the results of these analyses to verify that performance requirements are met and to suggest improvements to system designs. Moreover, we are developing new consultancy capabilities within Simulation to advise on power and energy for sales and engineering projects, creating a feedback loop for our system designs. Do you want to be part of this young and enthusiastic group?

Your responsibilities

You will contribute to the team’s objectives, which are aligned with the company’s sustainability strategy and the Innovation & Enabling Technologies energy reduction goals. Your role will encompass various responsibilities, requiring strong networking and influencing skills to drive meaningful change within Vanderlande. Our team focuses on enhancing power and energy practices across all business units and embedding these improvements into the workflows of every department.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development of Calculation Tools: You will refine and enhance existing calculation tools for Sales, collaborating with and training Sales Support Offices to estimate power supply and energy consumption accurately. These estimations will be based on measured data and insights from system behaviour simulations. Alignment with Engineering teams will ensure consistency in system calculation methods.

  • Collaboration on Simulation Models: Working closely with the Digital Twin Services department, you will help develop simulation models that provide critical insights into system behaviour and its impact on power supply and energy consumption. These models will also support the development of operational strategies and the evaluation of new technologies to improve system sustainability and energy efficiency.

  • Support for Sustainable Readiness: You will assist Development Streams (Technology) and Module Deployment Groups in ensuring compliance with Sustainable Readiness standards. This involves guiding teams to establish power and energy measurement frameworks for existing equipment and defining deliverables for newly developed equipment.

  • Data Collection and Reporting: You will gather data from operational sites to enhance calculation models and support reporting requirements, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directives and the Science-Based Targets initiative.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the company’s sustainability goals, driving energy efficiency and fostering innovation across departments.

Your qualifications and skills
