Junior Sales Trader

Your Role in Our Story: 

In essence, your role involves:

  • Helping turn ACT’s mission into commercial results by building and qualifying a pipeline of corporate and institutional clients.
  • Actively prospecting new clients through outbound calls, emails, events, and referrals to convert leads into trading accounts.
  • Speaking with prospective clients to understand their needs and constraints, and matching them with ACT’s environmental commodity solutions for both compliance and voluntary markets.
  • Quoting, negotiating, and executing spot and forward trades within approved limits, following desk guidance, risk policies, and delegated authorities.
  • Putting together straightforward solutions using standard instruments (such as certificates, allowances, and credits) under the guidance of senior traders.
  • Preparing prices and term sheets, and quickly confirming and recapping deals to clients and internal teams to ensure everything is correct.
  • Keeping accurate and complete records in trade systems so that Operations and Back Office can process trades smoothly.
  • Working closely with Compliance, Risk, and Operations on onboarding, KYC/AML checks, confirmations, and settlements to reduce operational risk.
  • Monitoring your own activity, pipeline, conversion, and P&L contribution, and sharing your progress and next steps in team meetings.
  • Continuously building your knowledge of markets, products, and regulations through ACT trainings and self-study, and sharing useful insights with the team.

 

Your Expertise: 

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Post-secondary education or proven equivalent commercial aptitude; a Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, international relations, environmental studies or a related field is a plus.
  • Clear commercial drive, shown through internships, student jobs in sales, or experience in research/analysis or other business-focused activities.
  • Ideally 0–2 years of experience in sales, brokerage, trading support, or another client-facing role; experience with cold calling or cold emailing is an advantage.
  • Interest in business, finance, sustainability, or energy/environmental markets, and the ambition to grow in environmental commodities and climate solutions.
  • Strong communication skills: able to explain solutions clearly, listen carefully to client needs, and build long-term relationships.
  • Resilience and persistence in prospecting, comfortable with high-volume outreach and rejection.
  • High level of numerical accuracy and attention to detail when pricing deals, recapping trades, and maintaining records.
  • Structured and organized way of working, with disciplined use of CRM and other systems to track activities and pipeline.
  • Sound judgement and integrity, following policies, risk limits, and compliance requirements while tailoring your approach to each client.
  • Confident user of standard office tools and basic data analysis; ready and willing to learn ACT’s systems and controls.
