Overview
Join our dynamic team as a Junior Group Underwriter, where you'll play a key role in supporting our sales efforts by delivering timely and accurate risk assessments and pricing for both new and existing group benefits plans. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on training and grow your expertise in managing a portfolio of in-force group business.
What You’ll Do
Prepare renewals and quotations for health, dental, life, and disability benefits.
Assess risk and determine appropriate rates for benefit plan revisions, ensuring alignment with established underwriting methodologies.
Review new business enrollments to confirm consistency with original quotations.
Maintain detailed documentation to support underwriting decisions and ensure audit readiness.
Evaluate insurance risks and set premium rates for both renewal and prospective groups in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
Generate interim financial and benefit reports as needed.
Collaborate with other underwriters on renewals, revisions, and quotations.
Contribute to cross-functional projects and initiatives.
What You Bring
Experience: Direct experience in group underwriting is preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, business, economics, or a related field, or a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to support sales teams effectively.
Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines independently and collaboratively.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant applications; strong numerical aptitude.
Attributes:
Self-motivated and eager to learn.
Comfortable working remotely as well as in the office and collaborating via video conferencing tools and in-office meetings.
Solid understanding of group benefits; familiarity with Alberta Blue Cross® products is an asset.
CEBS, GBA, or other underwriting-related certifications are preferred but not required.
