As a journeyperson electrician, you will function at an expert level in your trade and apply your knowledge, skill and experience to a wide range of complex projects. Your work will involve a diverse scope, including, but not limited to, the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of high and low voltage systems (both AC and DC) serving conventional infrastructure and customized scientific setups, a Siemens mXL fire alarm system, diesel generators, transfer switches, emergency lighting, motor controls and uninterruptible power supplies. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consistent with trade qualifications, installs low voltage and high voltage equipment systems, cable tray and conduit systems, grounding, building ventilation and heating systems, fans, motors and starters, VFDs, fire alarm systems, or lighting systems.

  • Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, and determine wiring layout for new and existing installations.

  • Perform troubleshooting and analyzing electrical issues to ensure system reliability

  • Conduct repairs, reconditioning and re-installing electrical equipment.

  • Performs work in compliance with applicable codes, instructions, and safety regulations and in accordance with work orders, drawings, documents and schedules.

  • May be assigned responsibility for providing training, monitoring and/or oversight for regulated work performed under the Safety Standards Act and regulations. This may include checking the work of apprentices, laborers, technicians or others as required.

  • Ensures work is performed as per current trade wiring methods, installations practices, and maintenance concepts, technology, and theory; and in line with manufacturer and regulatory installation and maintenance requirements

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to other employees within job area.

  • May be requested to come in off-hours in the case of an operational emergency.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Supervise and review work by non-journeypersons when they perform regulated work as defined by the Safety Standards Act (BC). This is an individual contributor role with occasional day-to-day supervisory responsibilities but with no requirement for resource management or the leadership of others.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the CEC, and the ability to ensure the work complies with all legal, safety, and professional requirements.
  • Ability to work with an electrical contractor.
  • Ability to prepare material’s take off for procurement.
  • Ensure that all tools, instruments, and equipment are in good and safe operating condition.
  • Advanced knowledge of, and commitment to, a modern approach to electrical safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, including the ability to select the appropriate means and methods necessary to complete complex electrical installations and to continuously assess and mitigate hazards.

NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:

The position requires the incumbent to be trained and designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker. TRIUMF will provide this in-house training to the successful candidate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Canadian Inter-provincial Qualification (Red Seal) in the Trade of Electrician or a certificate of qualifications (BC TQ) in Electrical Trade
  • Over seven years of related experience in commercial and industrial plant installations or equivalent.
  • Proven safety record.
  • FSR certification is an asset.

Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Annual salary: $82,535.00 plus our employer-paid comprehensive benefits plan
