The Role We are seeking a technically skilled & highly motivated individual to join our growing Global IT Organization as a Junior Observability Engineer. This role is responsible for assisting in the delivery and support of
large-scale system, application, service, and business activity observability solutions. The individual will work closely with senior team members to gather observability requirements from stakeholders and help deliver solutions utilizing the enterprise observability toolset. The Junior Observability Engineer is an integral part of a high-performing team implementing a standards-driven enterprise observability capability that integrates and translates data from and across multiple domains and tools leading to business-centric, proactive, predictive, and cost-effective event management.
What You'll Do
- As a IT Systems Administrator, you will play a key role in ensuring the stability and performance of our systems. Your key responsibilities include:
- System Monitoring: Assist in utilizing New Relic, DataDog, and Icinga to monitor application performance, infrastructure health, and service availability in real-time.
- Incident Response: Support the team in responding to alerts and incidents, employing observability tools to diagnose and resolve issues, thereby minimizing downtime.
- Performance Analysis: Help analyze performance data and logs from New Relic and DataDog to identify trends, optimize resource usage, and recommend improvements.
- Dashboard Development: Assist in creating and maintaining custom dashboards in New Relic and DataDog that visualize critical metrics and provide actionable insights for stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Partner with development and operations teams to implement observability best practices and integrate observability solutions into our CI/CD processes.
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of observability setups, processes, and incident responses, and prepare regular performance reports for management.
- Tool Enhancement: Continuously evaluate and enhance our observability tools, keeping up with the latest features of New Relic, DataDog, and Icinga to improve overall system observability capabilities.
- Training and Support: Provide guidance and support to team members on effective observability practices and the use of various tools.
What You'll Bring
- A foundational understanding of systems observability and performance optimization.
- Basic experience with New Relic, DataDog, and Icinga as primary observability tools.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving system performance issues.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their observability tools.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc.) for automation and data manipulation.
- Understanding of application performance monitoring (APM) concepts and best practices.
- Experience with alerting and incident management processes.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in an IT support role.
- 1-2 years experience using Observability Tools
- Experience in a fast-paced, agile environment is a plus.
