Job Description:

The IT Architect – Network & Infrastructure is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the technology infrastructure that supports mining operations across corporate offices, processing facilities, and remote mine sites. This role ensures that all network and infrastructure systems are secure, resilient, and scalable to meet the operational and safety demands of a modern mining environment.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with practical experience in hybrid IT/OT environments, remote connectivity challenges, and critical infrastructure support in geographically dispersed operations.

Day to Day:

  • Architecture & Design:

    • Develop and maintain the enterprise network and infrastructure architecture blueprint across data centers, mine sites, and cloud environments.

    • Design secure, reliable, and high-availability network solutions (LAN/WAN/MPLS/SD-WAN/VPN) suitable for remote and industrial locations.

    • Ensure scalability and redundancy for mission-critical systems supporting mining operations.

  • Operational Technology (OT) Integration:

    • Collaborate with mine site technology teams to align IT and OT network architectures.

    • Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of the north side of the IT/OT segregated DMZ; maintaining IT network segmentation and cybersecurity standards.

  • Infrastructure Management:

    • Experience with firewalls, networking, and server hardware management upgrades as well as resiliency, including RAID controllers, RAM upgrades, power redundancy, automated failover, etc.

    • Oversee the design and governance of server, storage, and virtualization platforms (on-premises and cloud).

    • Define standards for network hardware, monitoring, and lifecycle management across all sites.

    • Support infrastructure modernization, including migration to cloud and adoption of hybrid models.

  • Cybersecurity & Compliance:

    • Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with industry and company standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).

    • Implement network access control, firewalls, and segmentation strategies to protect critical systems.

  • Project Delivery & Support:

    • Provide architectural leadership on large-scale IT and infrastructure projects (mine expansion, new site setup, etc.).

    • Collaborate with site and corporate IT teams to ensure consistent implementation of global standards.

    • Serve as escalation point for complex infrastructure and networking issues.

  • Vendor & Partner Management:

    • Work with telecom and service providers to maintain reliable connectivity in remote environments.

    • Evaluate and manage technology vendors to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and cost efficiency.

Is This You?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure and network architecture, preferably within the mining, oil & gas, or industrial sectors.

  • Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, or equivalent enterprise network technologies.

  • SD-WAN, VPN, MPLS, and remote site networking.

  • VMware, Hyper-V, and/or cloud platforms (Azure/AWS).

  • IT/OT segmentation and secure industrial connectivity.

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, especially in cross-functional and remote team environments.
