Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2181P01 and is part of the IL 126, National Guard.

Major Duties:

  • As a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (TITLE 32), GS-2210-11, you will serve as a base systems administrator to monitor the Local and Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN), including the planning, analysis, acquisition, design, development, implementation, quality assurance, configuration, installation, integration, maintenance testing, operational integrity, and/or management of networked systems for the transmission of information in voice, data, and/or video formats. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Administer the base Local Area Network (LAN). Implement new network operating systems hardware and software and develops base wide network operating procedures. Analyze LAN utilization statistics through data collection and performance measures to ensure the smooth, reliable, and robust operation of LANs to include classified and unclassified networks. Coordinate LAN installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reviews, evaluates, and fine-tune components such as virtual servers, hubs, switches, and routers to achieve peak efficiency within the overall network connectivity. Install, configure, and troubleshoot network and application server hardware, network operating system software, and peripheral network equipment such as routers, bridges, cabling system, network interface cards, modems, multiplexers, and concentrators. Conduct testing of network systems to ensure current network software products are compatible with system configurations and to ensure operability, efficiency, and compliance with existing standards. Monitor operation of the LAN/WAN and ensures hardware and network operating software are functioning properly and that operation standards are met. Provide customer assistance and training for new network systems. Conducts problem analysis to identify trends, ineffective practices or procedures, and equipment shortcomings. Conduct in-depth analyses of network usage, user complaints, traffic interruptions, hardware and software capabilities, and other relevant factors. Plan for current and future technology integration and works issues for compatibility and standardization based on current and projected customer needs.

Qualifications: AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence, The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted only - E2-E6 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess IT-related experience demonstrating an aptitude to pay attention to detail, exceptional customer service skills, effective in oral communication, and excellence in problem solving. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9 Level. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-11 Level MUST possess at least 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade of GS-10; experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization; experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment; experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.
