Department Summary:

The IT Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for establishing, standardizing, and governing best practices for IT project management across the organization. This includes developing and maintaining comprehensive policies and procedures that guide all phases of the project lifecycle to ensure consistent, on-time, and within-budget delivery. Additionally, the PMO defines formal methodologies for resource allocation and the measurement of key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate project success and alignment with strategic objectives.

Job Summary

The IT Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing projects in alignment with PMBOK methodologies, ensuring delivery within defined scope, schedule, and budget parameters. This role involves coordinating cross-functional teams, vendors, and third-party partners to execute project plans effectively. The Project Manager will also monitor progress and evaluate project success against established performance metrics.

Independently manage medium to large-scale projects from initiation to completion.

Plan, organize, and coordinate project resources to ensure timely and successful delivery of project objectives.

Leverage technology effectively to facilitate both virtual and in-person meetings; strong presentation skills are required.

Document all project activities in accordance with IT PMO standards, utilizing established processes, procedures, and templates.

Prepare and deliver regular project status reports and dashboards to stakeholders and leadership teams.

Partner with change-management teams to support communication, training, and adoption strategies for project deliverables.

Execute responsibilities with a strong understanding of how project deliverables impact business operations and strategic goals.

Mentor and educate team members on project management best practices, methodologies, and tools.

Ensure project activities align with organizational security policies and relevant regulatory/compliance requirements.

Proactively seek out and share new project management techniques to improve outcomes and stay current in the field.

Develop and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders and cross-functional teams through both formal and informal engagement.

Navigate differing viewpoints respectfully while managing stakeholder and vendor expectations effectively.

Education

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university preferred.

Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations

PMP certification required.

Experience

A minimum of 4 years of direct project management experience is required.

At least 2 years of IT project management experience is preferred.

Experience leading healthcare-related project implementations is strongly preferred.

Proficiency with Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) such as Monday.com, Microsoft Project, and SharePoint is preferred. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, web technologies, and general IT systems is expected.

Familiarity with project management methodologies based on PMI’s PMBOK framework is required.

Environmental / Working Conditions

Works in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate the needs of other departments.


Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

This position requires interaction with most other UMC departments, medical staff, technical personnel at TTUHSC and UMCP. This position also deals directly with technical support analysts employed by contracted hardware and software vendors.


Physical Capabilities

Work is of medium demand; walking, sitting, and standing most of the time while on-duty. Occasional lifting of equipment is required. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required for typing. Talking and hearing is essential in dealing with co-workers and customers.
