Who We Are

Flagship Pioneering is a biotechnology company that invents and builds platform companies that change the world. We bring together the greatest scientific minds with entrepreneurial company builders and assemble the capital to allow them to take courageous leaps. Those big leaps in human health and sustainability exponentially accelerate scientific progress in areas ranging from cancer detection and treatment to nature-positive agriculture.

What sets Flagship apart is our ability to advance biotechnology by uniting life science innovation, company creation, and capital investment under one roof in a way that is largely without precedent. Our scientific founders, entrepreneurial leaders, and professional capital managers are each aligned around an institutionalized process that enables us to innovate and transform for the benefit of people and planet.

Many of the companies Flagship has founded have addressed humanity’s most urgent challenges: vaccinating billions of people against COVID-19, curing intractable diseases, improving human health, preempting illness, and feeding the world by improving the resiliency and sustainability of agriculture.

Flagship has been recognized twice on FORTUNE’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies, and has been twice named to Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on, strategically minded Enterprise Architect / Solutions Architect to design and operationalize Flagship’s Enterprise IT Framework—a comprehensive model that connects business processes, systems, data, and governance across the organization. This role will play a central part in aligning enterprise architecture to Flagship’s IT strategy, enabling scalable growth, data-driven decision making, and operational efficiency across all business functions.

The role combines strategic architecture design with technical execution. The successful candidate will define the enterprise operating model, implement data and application governance practices, and build out a unified architecture that integrates process standardization, systems interoperability, and master data management.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Enterprise IT Framework Leadership
  • Design, implement, and govern the Enterprise IT Framework—linking business processes, applications, data, and governance mechanisms across the enterprise.
  • Define the Purpose and Objectives of the framework, ensuring all technology investments and operational processes align with Flagship’s strategic outcomes.
  • Establish core architectural layers (Business Process, Application & Systems, Data & MDM) and integrate them into the IT operating model.
  • Lead collaboration across IT, Finance, HR, and Operations to align technology with business capabilities and process maturity.
  • Develop an execution roadmap for continuous improvement and scalability.
  1. Business Process & Application Architecture
  • Map enterprise business capabilities and identify process standardization and integration opportunities.
  • Build and maintain the application architecture blueprint, defining systems of record, systems of engagement, and integration touchpoints.
  • Support application lifecycle management, including rationalization, consolidation, and modernization initiatives.
  • Partner with business process owners to ensure system design aligns with operational needs and strategic priorities.
  1. Data & Master Data Governance
  • Lead the establishment of Master Data Management (MDM) practices and supporting technology.
  • Define data ownership, stewardship, and quality standards across key domains (Employee, Vendor, Customer, Product, etc.).
  • Partner with business and IT teams to enforce consistent data creation, validation, and integration across systems.
  • Support analytics and reporting functions by ensuring data integrity, compliance, and accessibility.
  1. Governance & Policy Framework
  • Stand up an IT Governance Committee and associated architecture review processes.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise-wide IT policies, standards, and procedures, covering integration development, security, access, data management, and system lifecycle.
  • Define governance cycles (e.g., Architecture Review Board, annual portfolio reviews) and ensure decisions are documented, auditable, and transparent.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and compliance teams to align policies with external standards (SOC, ISO, GDPR, SOX, etc.).
  1. Integration & Data Strategy Execution
  • Design and implement system integrations between enterprise platforms and SaaS tools using platforms such as Workato or Power Platform.
  • Ensure integrations are scalable, secure, and aligned with architectural standards.
  • Document data flow and application interdependencies as part of the enterprise data architecture.
  1. Strategic Alignment & Continuous Improvement
  • Align enterprise architecture initiatives with Flagship’s IT Strategic Goals—operational efficiency, scalability, innovation, and compliance.
  • Define and track metrics and KPIs to measure architectural maturity, integration efficiency, and governance compliance.
  • Continuously assess and optimize architecture components through a structured Assess → Design → Implement → Govern → Optimize cycle.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience architecting and implementing enterprise frameworks that integrate processes, applications, and data.
  • Proven ability to translate business strategy into executable technology roadmaps.
  • Strong working knowledge of enterprise systems (ERP, HCM, MDM) and cloud technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with integration platforms (e.g., Workato).
  • Familiarity with governance structures and standards development (e.g., ITSM, SOX, ISO, TOGAF).
  • Excellent communication skills—capable of engaging executives and technical teams alike.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Preferred

  • Experience building enterprise frameworks or MDM programs from the ground up.
  • Exposure to life sciences or innovation-driven organizations.
  • Technical certifications (e.g., TOGAF, AWS/Azure Architect, Workato).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional governance committees.
