What You’ll Do

Global Networks & Technology - Network & Infrastructure Engineering designs and delivers Telstra's network and infrastructure solutions, ensuring they're reliable, scalable, and secure.

We are seeking a highly skilled IT Domain-Senior Specialist to join the Mainframe Services mission. This role is critical to maintaining the stability, performance, and security of our Mainframe Platform. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in IBM z/OS environments, COBOL programming, JCL scripting, and mainframe performance tuning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support IBM z/OS mainframe systems, ensuring high availability and performance

  • Develop, test, and deploy COBOL programs and batch jobs using JCL

  • Monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mainframe applications with distributed systems

  • Perform capacity planning, disaster recovery testing, and system upgrades

  • Ensure compliance with security policies and audit requirements

  • Document system configurations, procedures, and change management activities

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with IBM Mainframe technologies

  • Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, and CICS

  • Must be able to read/write REXX and SAS and understand CLIST and ISPF

  • Strong understanding of z/OS architecture and system utilities

  • Experience with performance monitoring tools (e.g., RMF, SMF)

  • Familiarity with RACF security administration

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Strong communication and documentation abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • Experience with modernization initiatives (e.g., API integration, DevOps on mainframe)
  • Knowledge of Assembler, or PL/I is a plus
  • ITIL or other relevant certifications
