Major Duties:

  • Technical authority on data management system development and administration.
  • Provides guidance and technical support regarding the requirements analysis, design, programming, testing, and implementation of existing and proposed data management systems.
  • Monitors data performance, file organization and structure, file management, mass storage management, backup and recovery of data, and data systems security.
  • Ensures compatibility of operating systems in accordance with specific data systems and data applications requirements.
  • Recommends development and deployment of appropriate platforms, methodologies, and strategies, and monitors data operations on the database to ensure continuous availability.
  • Researches specific IT topics to evaluate alternatives, and ingrates and uses the respective IT knowledge in the formulation of plans that meet operational objectives.

Problem Solving - identifying alternatives to address complex information technology-related issues by gathering and applying information from a variety of sources that provide a number of potential solutions. In Addition to the Basic Requirement above: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-12) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience is defined as: Providing expertise and technical guidance on the design, programming, implementation, and maintenance of data management systems; experience with Integrated Database Management System (IDMS); and applying complex IT principles and practices to the Database Design and Database Architecture process.
