What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience.  New hires are typically brought into the organization between $39.56 and $54.00. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location & Schedule

In this role, you will work onsite at Denver International Airport four days per week. The schedule consists of four 10-hour shifts, with on-call responsibilities as required.

Specifically, as the IT Communications Technician II you will:

  •  Designs, plans, constructs, and configures portions of the Information Technology communications infrastructure design and coordinates with vendors for installation.

  • Provides technical guidance for customer inquiries and Service Desk escalations on complex issues related to communications infrastructure; diagnoses and troubleshoots complex problems and resolves or refers issues to the appropriate Information Technology resource.

  • Designs, maintains, and modifies data infrastructure systems that deliver voice, data, and video over a complex fiber optic network, including:

    • Communication lines and systems that serve all DEN life safety equipment

    • Support and installation of all enterprise communications systems

    • Troubleshooting complex circuitry and restoring service during outages

    • Installation of complex new LiDAR systems
       

  • Assists with the daily operation and management of PWCS infrastructure and circuit administration, including configuration management and patch management.

  • Provides technical guidance to engineering teams regarding implementation standards.

  • Serves as a liaison with DEN service users, stakeholders, and regional agencies to determine and document future communications requirements.

  • Functions as a team subject matter expert for daily operational support, as assigned by position.

  • Oversees and provides instruction on Information Technology communications issues to lower-level staff.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Participates as a sole contributor, team member, or team leader on PWCS projects.

  • Manages vendor technical support.

  • Acts as an escalation point to address team and customer issues or concerns.

  • Coaches, mentors, and provides training to junior staff and PWCS customers.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Strong knowledge of communications infrastructure, including fiber optic systems and network architecture

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex IT and communications-related issues

  • Familiarity with enterprise voice, data, and video delivery systems

  • Understanding of implementation standards, best practices, and compliance requirements

  • Project management skills, including the ability to lead or contribute to technical projects

  • Vendor management and technical support coordination skills

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of full performance experience performing Information Technology communications maintenance, repair and installation.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.


Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
