Mercer is hiring a Distribution & Market Specialist join our Distribution Management & Oversight team. In this role, you will take the lead on all matters relating to distribution and market regulatory compliance activities and requirements. This will be an initial 12 month fixed term contract.
 

The Distribution Management & Oversight Team is designed to drive best practice, constituency and innovation in how the business approaches commercial expansion. The Distribution Management & Oversight Team are responsible for a range of activities across 60+ markets including, management of new market approvals and ongoing monitoring of regulatory compliance across all markets, fund registrations, distribution arrangement scoping, screening, due diligence and ongoing monitoring, governance reporting and more. 

The candidate will have the opportunity to be a part of a strong performing team with a proven track record of ensuring risk-controlled growth for the Investment Solutions business. Working closely with numerous teams, the candidate will have the ability to bring their own ideas and innovations to streamlining processes and procedures for the business. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in distribution and market dynamics, combining a thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks with a commercially focused mindset. This blend will support the continued risk-controlled growth of the business across diverse markets and segments.

We will rely on you to:

  • Lead the Market Pillar within the Distribution Management & Oversight team, driving regulatory compliance efforts for the business.
  • Act as a conduit between the Commercial Teams and the business regarding market-related matters.
  • Prepare and deliver quarterly distribution and market-related reports, provide updates to funds’ boards, and contribute to registration and regulatory compliance reporting.
  • Take ownership of distribution and market regulatory compliance for Mercer and its funds, including:
    • First line risk and control activities
    • Market due diligence and oversight
    • Collaborating with the business to ensure appropriate structures and approaches in new and existing markets
    • Monitoring, managing, and implementing regulatory changes
    • Maintaining and enhancing best-in-class processes and procedures
    • Leveraging technology to drive operational efficiencies
  • Evaluate and incorporate feedback and lessons learned from projects, and ensure continuous improvement and scalability of business solutions.
  • Facilitate sales and segment leads as a centre of excellence across distribution focused topics including regulatory matters, market and segment queries, commercial prioritization, decision making, research and scoping.
  • Leverage fund industry experience to collaborate with commercial and business teams for new business deliverables and opportunities.
  • Participate in management committee meetings / forums and attendance at board meeting presentations.
  • Maintain and develop a wide network of effective relationships with key contacts both internal and external to build professional relationships, understand core stakeholder issues, identify pain points and improve working practices.    
  • Preparing and in some cases, peer reviewing output to ensure that their work is executed effectively, promptly and accurately so that the needs of internal and external stakeholders are consistently met and exceeded. 
  • Suggest and implement improvements to team activities based on knowledge of emerging industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as Delegate to the Designated Person for Distribution.

What you need to have: 

  • Min 3-5 years of distribution and market experience including oversight and 1st line defence functions, regulatory compliance
  • A proven track record of leading, delivering and maintenance of distribution, market and regulatory matters
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly structured and organised
  • A strategic and creative mindset, with the ability to generate and evaluate new ideas, solutions, and business models
  • A collaborative and inclusive approach, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Experience of regulatory compliance in investments will be an advantage
  • Direct interaction with senior international stakeholders for delivery will be preferred
  • Excellent writing skills, ability to summarize researched information into insights that can drive decision-making
  • Good team worker, as deliverables will involve working with colleagues in multiple areas of the business and across different countries
  • Strong communication skills to ensure issues clearly identified and explained to various interested parties
