Join Arriva Rail London as our Internal Communications Lead and help shape how colleagues connect with our purpose, culture, and strategic priorities. You’ll craft clear, engaging messages across all channels, drive employee engagement, and support transformation initiatives. Acting as a trusted advisor to leaders, you’ll play a key role in building a positive, inclusive workplace where every voice feels heard.

What you’ll be doing:

  • You will develop and deliver an internal communications plan that supports ARL’s business objectives, culture, and transformation programmes.

  • This individual will use insights from audits, surveys, and feedback to continuously improve communications and drive engagement.

  • The Internal Communications Lead will ensure all messaging is inclusive, accessible, and aligned with ARL’s brand, tone of voice, and values.

  • You will act as a trusted advisor to leaders and managers, coaching them on effective communication and engagement strategies.

  • This individual will manage and evolve ARL’s internal channels, including intranet, newsletters, town halls, and multimedia content, to keep colleagues informed and inspired.

  • You will lead campaigns and events that bring ARL’s strategic priorities to life, including the annual leadership conference and integrated initiatives with external communications.

  • The Internal Communications Lead will champion initiatives that strengthen culture, wellbeing, recognition, and employee advocacy across the business.

  • You will define KPIs and measure impact, using data and feedback to evaluate success and refine approaches for maximum reach and effectiveness.

  • This individual will play a key role in crisis and change communications, ensuring clarity, consistency, and support during periods of transformation.

  • You will remain adaptable and responsive, occasionally supporting emerging issues outside of standard hours to ensure colleagues are kept informed when it matters most.

What you’ll need:

  • This individual will need proven experience in internal communications, with a track record of strategy and delivery.

  • The ideal applicant will have an understanding of external communications and how they connect with internal messaging.

  • You will need strong commercial awareness and the ability to align communications with ARL’s business objectives.

  • This individual will need excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a flair for storytelling and copywriting.

  • The ideal applicant will have a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and pride in producing quality work.

  • You will need the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

  • The internal communications lead will need strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the confidence to advise and coach senior leaders.

  • This individual will need a proactive, solutions‑focused approach to problem‑solving, knowing when to consult and escalate.

  • You will need the ability to quickly grasp complex issues and communicate them clearly and effectively.

  • The ideal applicant will have resilience, adaptability, and a curious mindset to drive continuous improvement.

  • You will need experience managing digital channels, exploring innovative tools, and producing creative multimedia content such as video, podcasts, or photography.

  • This individual will need the flexibility to travel across London Overground locations and support communications during periods of change or crisis.
