About the Role
The Sustainability team is seeking a student pursuing a graduate degree focused on sustainability, environmental management, responsible investing, or another area connected to sustainability. This individual will bring prior professional experience and a fresh academic perspective to apply their learning in a practical, hands-on way - joining the team for the summer to contribute to key initiatives that advance Ventas’s sustainability strategy across its real estate and healthcare portfolio.
As a Summer Intern on the Sustainability team, you will collaborate with team members and partners across the business to drive progress on projects that support Ventas’s environmental goals, strengthen its reporting and data analytics capabilities, and help communicate the company’s impact. The role provides exposure to both strategy and execution, offering valuable insight into how Ventas’s sustainability principles drive long-term value creation. Key responsibilities include:
Support sustainability strategy initiatives, including tracking and analyzing environmental metrics such as energy, emissions, waste, and water across Ventas’s diverse real estate portfolio.
Evaluate new technologies and products that could improve efficiency or reduce emissions
Assist in the preparation of materials for external sustainability reporting and disclosures (e.g., GRESB, Corporate Sustainability Report, TCFD) and internal presentations to senior leadership.
Conduct research on evolving sustainability frameworks, regulations, and best practices relevant to real estate and healthcare.
Collaborate with internal teams to integrate sustainability priorities into operations, investments, and property management practices.
Contribute to communications and storytelling initiatives highlighting Ventas’s sustainability commitments and impact.
Participate in ad hoc projects and analyses that support the company’s long-term sustainability objectives.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a graduate-level program (MBA, Master’s, or equivalent) with a concentration in Sustainability, Finance, Real Estate, Environmental Management, or related fields.
3-5 years of prior full-time professional experience in a relevant function such as corporate sustainability, consulting, finance, real estate, or operations.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with sustainability or data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill technical or analytical insights for business audiences.
Highly organized, adaptable, and proactive - able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Must be available to work full-time in Chicago for a minimum of 10 weeks during Summer 2026.
Willingness to adapt and thrive in a blended work environment with 3-days in office, seamlessly transitioning between remote work and in-office operations.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without need for employer sponsorship now or in the future
The estimated base pay for this position is $35.00 per hour. This range reflects a good-faith estimate of the hourly rate Ventas reasonably expects to pay at the time of posting. Actual pay will be based on factors such as work location, skills, qualifications, relevant experience and business needs.
This position is not eligible for incentive compensation or participation in our company benefit plans. The role is eligible for paid sick time and paid time off in accordance with applicable law.
