Intern, R&D – Pharmacy Tools (Round Lake, IL)
Your Role at Baxter
Baxter offers a robust summer internship program based in the Chicoland area that provides meaningful work assignments and projects that immerse students in Baxter’s culture designed to provide practical work experience highlighting what an individual would do in a similar full-time role with the ability to make a business impact. You'll be paired with a mentor, receive support from your manager, and have access to the entire Baxter employee community to ensure your success.
This internship requires the candidate to be local to the Round Lake, IL office - 25212 IL-120, Round Lake, IL 60073
What you'll be doing:
You will work alongside our Material Scientists and Engineers, supporting laboratory activities in one or all of the following material characterization tools: thermal, mechanical, microscopy, optical, rheological, various chemistry analytical (such as HPLC, GCMS, etc.) to solve materials engineering challenges.
Support Material/Polymer Science Innovation for regulated medical products.
Laboratory testing using various material characterization tools.
Method innovation, validation and qualification.
Provide weekly updates outlining progress.
Overview of Pharmacy Tool Internship Functional Area Projects Available:
Material Scientist Intern
Testing and characterization of materials used in the development of new medical devices including techniques like DSC, TGA, HPLC, Elongation, Impact Strength, and other functional property testing.
Development of novel polymer blends and formulations utilizing lab extrusion capabilities.
Hardware Product Development Intern (supporting Electromechanical Devices)
Identification and Qualification of a new motor for Baxter’s Pump.
Support product development efforts to integrate and verify design updates and transfer new design into production.
Test Method development and test method validation for a new test method for determining fluid delivery accuracy.
Support the build of prototypes for feasibility studies on next generation medical devices.
Data Scientist Intern
Will be involved in the development of a medical device materials database that can be utilized to track product properties, regulatory compliance, and improve material change control processes
Will be involved in the utilization of AI tools to improve material assessments and data analysis to accelerate change control processes
What you'll bring:
Baxter is targeting students with proven academic performance and leadership potential. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities.
Rising Junior, Senior or Graduate student pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or related major.
Technical writing and data review in a regulated type environment preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated leadership qualities and problem-solving skills
Positive attitude, team-oriented, adaptive to change, and collaborative
Actively involved in campus or community activities and organizations, preferably in leadership roles
