Summary:
The San Diego Union-Tribune's 2026 summer internship application period is now open. This intensive eight-week program, running from June 22 to August 14, offers highly motivated aspiring journalists hands-on experience across various beats, including public safety/courts, border, enterprise, arts and entertainment, sports, business, and photojournalism, in a region known for major news.
What you will do:
Gain intensive, hands-on experience in a major news region
Sharpen your skills in journalism and new media
Work with and learn from experienced journalists
Get experience in reporting and writing
Practice interviewing, researching and investigating
Cover news from a community perspective
What you will bring:
Must be a current undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate from a college or university
Must have a legal right to work in the United States
A strong record of participation in journalism or community leadership
Reliable transportation for the eight weeks of the internship
Highly motivated with diverse backgrounds or life experiences
Benefits and Compensation:
The hourly wage is $17.75. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility). Conditions of Employment:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation
Travel – This position entails occasional driving for work assignments, in-person training sessions and/or meetings. The employee will be responsible for transporting themselves between different sites as needed
Must be available for shift work. May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours
