VIAVI is looking to hire a Fiber Inspection Test Engineering Intern in Bothell, WA.
Viavi (NASDAQ: VIAV) is seeking an intern to gain cross-functional engineering experience with software, firmware, and hardware by working on the Verification and Validation (V+V) team as a test engineering intern. You will work alongside Viavi test engineers to assist with testing Linux based embedded devices to identify bugs and stress test the system. You will use Python to help develop and write automated tests and tools to collect system data. You will design and conduct tests to improve features and usability of the product. You will learn about fiber optic technologies, optics/microscopes, and imaging systems. Most importantly, you will be part of a team responsible for monitoring the reliability and repeatability of the products we ship to actual customers.

Responsibilities:
Work within a multi-disciplinary team developing products and features for real customers
Perform investigative work by issuing developer-level commands to debug issues
Develop automated tests and internal tools using Python
Plan, conduct, and monitor product reliability testing
Collect, analyze, and summarize data for various internal and external customers
Work hands on to learn and become an expert on test methods, testing tools and equipment
Execute system-level manual regression testing and use that knowledge to develop automated regression tests
Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:
Qualifications:
Enrollment or recent completion of degree program studying STEM related field - engineering, software or sciences including physics/optics
Authorization to work in the US (no visa support)
Availability to work onsite in Bothell, WA full time for minimum of 2 months
Demonstrated programming experience, especially in Python
Additional Qualifications:
Analytical approach to testing, data collection and data visualization
Ability to design and implement tests, collect data and interpret results
Curiosity to understand how things work and solve open ended problems
Attention to detail and an interest in deep diving to investigate and reproduce bugs
Ability to follow specific direction + drive to find best approach when offered general direction
Local resident preferred (within Greater Seattle area), potential to continue internship part-time during academic year
