We strive to create, champion and maintain a global workplace where individuals’ unique contributions are valued and drive innovative solutions to meet the needs of our patients, care partners, families and employees.

Our people are compassionate, candid, and purposeful, and our business is innovative and rooted in science. We believe that being proudly authentic and determined to be our best is essential to fulfilling our purpose. Yes, our work is incredibly serious and impactful, but we have big ambitions, bring a ton of care to pursuing them, and have a lot of fun while doing so.

Does this inspire you and feel like a fit? Then we would love to have you join us!

The role

We are looking for a highly motivated intern to join the High Throughput Screening & Automation (HTSA) department within our Discovery organization. In this role, you will focus on optimizing lab automation systems by developing a novel teaching approach for modular plate-handling robotic workcells.

The HTSA team enables efficient and scalable experimental workflows by leveraging advanced automation technologies. This internship is centered around engineering, system optimization, and operational excellence, rather than scientific research. You will work on improving how robotic systems are configured and maintained by reducing the number of teach points through the use of SmartCart-based docking and robot vision capabilities.

With your technical curiosity and problem-solving mindset, you will contribute to making automated lab systems more efficient, scalable, and user-friendly. You will gain hands-on experience in a biotech environment while working closely with engineers and scientists at the intersection of robotics, software, and life sciences.

Does this sound like something that interests you? Help us get to know you and submit your CV and motivation letter!

  • You are supervised by experienced engineers who will guide you in the planning, execution, and documentation of your project.

  • You learn and apply current techniques in automated plate handling and robotic system teaching.

  • You develop and test a proof of concept to demonstrate accurate plate handling using reference positions and offsets.

  • You apply robot vision to reproducibly define reference positions.

  • You develop scripts to translate robot coordinates into offsets and scalable workflows.

  • You design data structures and solutions that can be implemented across multiple robotic workcells.

  • You document your work, create clear work instructions, and present your results to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program at a Dutch university in Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automation Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • This internship must be a formal, mandatory component of your degree program required for graduation; we cannot consider candidates who have already graduated or who are seeking an extracurricular internship.

  • You have experience with or strong interest in programming (e.g., Python or C#).

  • You have an affinity for automation, robotics, and system integration.

  • You are interested in applying engineering solutions in a laboratory or life sciences environment.

  • You are proactive, solution-oriented, and enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team.

  • You set high-quality standards and continuously look for ways to improve systems and processes.

  • You are business fluent in English as it's Genmab's primary language.
