Senior Legal Counsel (maternity cover – 12 months fixed term)
Wotton under Edge/Hybrid working (office based a minimum of 3 days a week, located approximately 45 minutes from Bristol and Cheltenham)
Salary in the region of £100,000
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Legal Counsel for maternity cover as part of our global legal and secretarial team (“L&S”).
You will report to the Group Divisional Counsel based in our head office in the UK and work closely with senior stakeholders, including divisional and functional heads.
Although this role is temporary, there may be other opportunities in the wider L&S team for the right person at the end of the fixed term.
Person specification
As part of the L&S team, your focus will be providing pragmatic legal advice while supporting our core values of Innovation, Inspiration, Integrity and Involvement.
You will be adept at drafting and negotiating commercial contracts to reduce legal risk in a dynamic and complex business environment.
You will have superior interpersonal skills to influence and inform your stakeholders, both within the L&S team and wider business.
Key responsibilities
Act as a key contact for senior stakeholders in a range of business units and corporate support departments to help influence and implement business strategy and direction.
Review, draft and negotiate high-value, complex commercial contracts with customers, sales intermediaries, suppliers and other key business partners.
Support L&S change projects that underpin the business’s key objectives across multiple disciplines.
Support operational and commercial functions with day-to-day legal queries and issues.
Assist in maintaining the L&S team’s templates, precedents and other know-how materials.
Provide practical solutions to complex legal problems as an experienced business partner.
Procure and manage external specialist counsel (as required).
Address a broad range of legal and business issues while maintaining clear priorities and meeting deadlines.
Support the Group Divisional Counsel and other senior lawyers as required, both in the UK and internationally.
Contribute to the growth of the L&S team by sharing knowledge, delivering training, mentoring more junior colleagues and supporting the onboarding of new colleagues.
Key requirements
Qualified solicitor (England and Wales) with 5 - 8 years’ experience in delivering pragmatic, commercial legal advice in a demanding private practice or in-house and evolving business environment.
Excellent technical knowledge of commercial law, with strong commercial contracts expertise and a working knowledge of intellectual property in commercial contracts.
Superior analytical skills and a creative, flexible approach to problem solving.
An ability to interact with people at all levels in the business.
Display impeccable integrity and a willingness and ability to lead by example.
Strong attention to detail and drafting expertise.
A “can do” attitude and a deep understanding of the challenges of a fast-moving, revenue generating business (ideally with experience in-house in the manufacturing and/or engineering sectors).
An appetite to learn continually and share your experience and knowledge.
